    Survey Crew Chief

    Job Description

    We are seeking a Survey Crew Chief to lead field survey operations with precision and professionalism. In this role, you will oversee survey crews, ensure accurate data collection, and maintain high standards of safety and quality. You’ll be responsible for managing complex survey tasks, operating advanced equipment, and mentoring junior staff while contributing to a variety of civil and utility projects.

    Responsibilities

    + Lead and supervise survey crews in the field.

    + Perform and oversee complex survey measurements and computations.

    + Operate, check, and perform basic field adjustments on survey equipment.

    + Interpret control point records and locate them accurately in the field.

    + Conduct geophysical prospecting to designate underground utility layouts.

    + Review and interpret utility and highway design plans, atlases, and record drawings.

    + Perform minor maintenance and troubleshoot operating problems on vacuum systems and vehicles.

    + Ensure accurate and legible completion of field paperwork and records.

    + Maintain vehicles, equipment, and work sites in clean and functional condition.

    + Train and mentor less experienced crew members.

    + Communicate effectively with project managers and engineers regarding field progress and issues.

    Essential Skills

    + Strong proficiency in land surveying, topographic surveys, and boundary surveys.

    + Experience with location design surveys, construction staking, and as-built surveys.

    + Skilled in operating total stations, robotic total stations, and GPS receivers.

    + Familiarity with Trimble and Carlson data collectors.

    + Knowledge of site layout, civil site design, and site development.

    + Ability to lead teams and manage field operations efficiently.

    Qualifications

    + High School Diploma/GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Surveying preferred.

    + Valid driver’s license.

    + Minimum of three years of experience as a survey crew member, or one year as a Survey Field Tech II with leadership experience.

    + Ability to lift approximately 50 lbs.

    + Strong work ethic and willingness to train and support junior staff.

    Work Environment

    + Outdoor work in all climates.

    + Travel required; potential for extensive travel.

    + Overtime available as needed.

    + Office located in Fort Mill, SC, in a newly established building with approximately 30 staff.

    + Typical working hours: 7 am to 5 pm, with flexibility for overtime.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $55000.00 - $65000.00/yr.
