Position Summary/Description:

This is a tenure track, Assistant Professor of anthropology position. A biological anthropologist or human ecologist with a specialization in health and the environment will contribute to our vibrant undergraduate and graduate programs, including a growing medical anthropology major and minor and our PhD program in Human Biology, Ecology, and Evolution ( HBEE ). This position will add to our department’s longstanding strength in environmental anthropology. Potential areas of focus may include, but are not limited to, water and other resource-related health issues, human-environment interactions, health and environmental exposures (weather, toxicants, etc.), and biocultural adaptation to environmental change. This position will complement, rather than duplicate, existing expertise in the HBEE program. The assistant professor will engage with intellectual spaces beyond the department such as the Carolina Population Center, the Gillings School of Global Public Health, the Environment, Ecology, and Energy Program, the Center for Galapagos Studies, and the Institute for the Environment. The assistant professor will have teaching duties for upper and lower-level classes in human biology, environmental anthropology, and/or medical anthropology as well as one service course and a graduate level course. The course load for this position is a 2:2. This position will also contribute to research mentorship for graduate and undergraduate students in HBEE and medical anthropology.
