JOB SUMMARY
The Surgery Scheduler / Charge Information Auditor coordinates surgical procedures by managing schedules, communicating with surgeons and staff, and ensuring accurate documentation and charge information. This role audits surgical charges for accuracy and compliance, supports efficient workflow in the operating department, and requires strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Coordinate surgery dates, times, and operating availability based on surgeon schedules, patient needs, and hospital resources
Maintain accurate patient records, surgical consent forms, insurance authorizations, and preoperative documents
Communicate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, nursing staff, and other departments to ensure all resources are ready for procedure
Maintain Logs of scheduled surgeries, track cancelations/reschedules, and provide reports as needed
Calculate charges from hardcopy acuity record following time acuity protocol (in room, out room, and number of staff)
Ensure all scheduling and documentation comply with hospital policies, HIPPAA, and other regulatory requirements
Reconcile patient records to surgery schedule
Knowledge of procedural codes such as CPT.
Research case by case discrepancies and apply corrections.
Verify chargeable items against company invoices for accurate charging:
Request hold status on charges from the appropriate department as needed.
Request new item clarification / verification from the Perioperative Services Purchasing department for billable items.
Enter patient charges in Multiple Platforms
Review daily reports and report discrepancies to appropriate department(s):
Unresolved credits.
Notify appropriate contact person when problem with charge passage occurs.
Enter implant information in the GE iPath / CPM system when applicable:
Required for FDA tracking
Maintain Excel file for file transfer and storage history.
Request hardcopy records upon internal departmental requests
Work with internal and external auditors
Audit hospital billing records vs perioperative services to ensure revenue compliance guidelines are met

QUALIFICATIONS
- EDUCATION - H.S. Diploma/GED Equivalent
- EXPERIENCE - 4 Years of Experience
