    The Role

     

    Evaluates, implements, and controls companys radioactive waste management programs and procedures to protect against radiation hazards. Recommends and develops policies for inspection standards, decontamination procedures, emergency procedures, waste handling, and disposal services. Controls personnel radiation exposures, environmental releases, and surface-type contaminants. Stays abreast of federal, state, local, and industry radiation protection regulations and ensures that radiation levels are in compliance with standards. May develop and direct radiation training and monitoring programs.

     

    Assist in maintaining the Radiological Waste/Material Transportation Program, coordinating logistics, and ensuring compliance with regulations. Performs non-hazardous, radioactive, hazardous and mixed waste shipments. Assists with waste characterization in preparation for off-site shipment for recycle, treatment, and/or disposal. Performs waste packaging, marking, labeling, and load securement determinations. Provides support to Shipping Engineers and Trades craftsmen during waste generation and packaging operations. Prepares shipping papers/records and waste manifests in accordance with state and federal regulations. Coordinates transportation logistics. Verifies and performs all necessary safety checks, compliance checks and final inspections of all packages prior to transport to ensure compliance with DOT, federal, state, and local regulations. Communicate regularly with public shipyards and disposal sites to ensure alignment with their local site criteria, guidelines, and requirements. Interprets waste management and transportation rules, regulations, and policies to assist generators in the proper compliant management of facility and Project waste. Writes and maintains Transportation Program procedures and manuals.

     

    Must Have

     

    Bachelor's Degree and 0 years of relevant exempt experience.

    One of the following may be used as an equivalent to Bachelor's Degree:

    + NNS Apprentice School graduate

    + Navy Nuclear Power School (NNPS) graduate

    + Associate's Degree or other formal 2 year program and 2 years of relevant exempt experience or 4 years of relevant non-exempt experience

    + Military Paygrade E-5 or above military experience

    + High School/GED and 4 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant exempt experience

    + High School/GED and 8 years combined of Manufacturing, Shipbuilding, Trades, Military experience or other relevant non-exempt experience

    + Strong communication and organizational skills. Energetic and passionate professional. Proficient with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.

     

    Nice to Have

     

    Working knowledge of 49 CFR, or other applicable DOT background and training.
