    What will you do?

     

    Under general supervision, the Criminal Investigator 3 will perform work of considerable difficulty while conducting criminal investigations for the Georgia Department of Revenue and enforces Georgia code.

    Which qualifications are required?

     

    Bachelors degree in a related field from an accredited college or university, Georgia POST certification and two (2) years of related experience

    OR

    Georgia POST certification and four (4) years of experience in a law enforcement or related field

    OR

    Georgia POST certification and one (1) year of experience required at the lower level Criminal Investigator 2 (PSP091) or position equivalent

     

    Note: Some positions may require incumbent to have a valid Class C driver's license.

    Core duties:

    + Organizes and manages caseloads

    + Investigates alleged or suspected violations of Federal, state, or local laws, rules and regulations to determine if evidence is enough to recommend prosecution or to report findings to the appropriate jurisdictional authority for their action

    + Collaborates with other authorities on activities such as surveillance, transcription, and research.

    + Conducts background investigations.

    + Examines records in order to locate links in chain of evidence or information.

    + Identifies case issues and evidence needed, based on analysis of charges, complaints, or allegations of law violations.

    + Prepares reports that detail investigation findings

    + Determines scope, timing, and direction of investigations.

    + Serves as job expert or organization resource in assigned areas.

    + May conduct training for other staff members.

    + Obtains and verifies evidence by interviewing and observing suspects and witnesses, or by analyzing records.

    + Performs special assignments when needed.

    Essential Criteria

    • The ability to interpret tax laws, policies, rules, and regulations pertaining to tax collection

    + Current P.O.S.T. Law Enforcement Certification (PBLE)

    Preferred Qualifications for Applicants:

    • CFE Certified Fraud Examiner

    • Minimum of 6 months experience financial Investigations

    • Ability to conduct a long-term criminal/financial investigation and follow it through to adjudication.

    • Familiarity with all tools available for detailed investigations

    *** Position Specific Criteria: In addition to meeting the Entry Qualifications, ONLY candidates who possess two consecutive years of experience as a uniformed patrol officer will be considered for an interview.

    NECESSARY LEGAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Selected candidates are subject to mandatory pre-employment drug screening. Under the provisions of State Personnel board Rule 9, these positions are subject to random drug screenings for continued employment. Applicants must also successfully pass the pre-employment process which includes the background investigation and polygraph, oral interview, physical fitness test, psychological and medical evaluations.

     

    Incumbents in this job are by law considered to be Peace Officers and therefore must meet the standards for this job prescribed by the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council (POST).
