    Position Description

    Reporting to the Executive Director, the Public Art Manager is a full time Civil Service position responsible for leading the development ,planning and oversight of all programs, partnerships and financial investments for Metro’s award-winning public art program which includes administration of both capital (One Percent for Art) and operating budgets. This position directly oversees the permanent Percent for Art program collection ,as well as temporary artwork installations, artist residencies, and special projects and commissions. This position manages a wide array of public and private partnerships with Metro departments and local, state, and national organizations committed to public art.

Metro Arts encompasses a wide range of public programs, grant funding, and the management of the public art program and collection for the city.     Typical Duties

    + Designs and guides project schedule and the tracking system for public arts projects.

    + Oversees the development of high impact public art projects including planning, procurement, budget tracking and artist management and installation.

    + Leads strategic planning and implementation of Public Art Community Investment Plan.

    + Develop and manage the capital (One Percent for Art) and operating budget for public art.

    + Leads short-term planning, long-term public art planning, and evaluation.

    + Evaluates the value of public investment in public art and determines how public art funding serves all communities, with specific attention to previously underserved communities.

    + Reviews and make recommendations for updates to the Public Art and other procedural guidelines regularly.

    + Develop and facilitate artist trainings, residencies, temporary artwork, and other special programs that support the public art ecosystem.

    + Serves as lead staff support to the Public Art Committee of the Arts Commission.

    + Supervises and provides support to Public Art Project Managers and Collections Manager.

    + Collaborates with Public Information Manager to develop and implement communication strategies to promote the public art program and show the value of public investment in public art.

    + Works on special projects, prepares and presents reports as assigned.

    + Represents Metro Arts and builds and maintains relationships with individuals and organizations to strengthen partnerships and opportunities to support public art.

    + Responsible for continuous process improvements by facilitating clear and open feedback, employee evaluations, and documentation of work performance.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's Degree plus five (5) years of professional experience in an administrative, public arts management, program design, planning or architecture related field.

     

    "Experience may be considered in lieu of education."

    Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.

     

    Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Project management experience, including the ability to produce, track and manage multiple deliverables with overlapping deadlines.

    + Experience navigating structured organizations (e.g., governments, universities, or large organizations) and obtaining buy-in on potentially challenging ideas

    + Supervision and team leadership experience, including coordinating and reviewing the work of others.
