Women and minorities are under-represented in this job category and are encouraged to apply. *Specific Job Information* This position will plan, implement, and evaluate management, conservation, restoration, monitoring, research, propagation, and other activities to conserve and restore game and native fish species to fulfill FWP's statutory responsibilities and mission. The incumbent will develop and implement projects identified in management plans and conservation strategies and agreements to attain management goals. The primary geographic area of responsibility is the Jefferson and upper Missouri basins in FWP Region 3. Emphasis will be placed on completionof on-the-ground projects, including oversight of flow and habitat enhancement projects, fish barrier and fish passage projects, piscicide projects, and population conservation and restoration. Responsibilities include obtaining relevant permits, completing appropriate public and internal scoping and decision-making processes, completing purchasing and/or contracting as needed, and providing oversight or other coordination associated with project implementation. The incumbent will design and conduct field investigations to assess the characteristics and dynamics of fish populations relative to conservation and management goals and to evaluate conservation and management actions or programs. This position must work closely and effectively with other regional fisheries management biologists and technicians, conservation geneticists, contracting and budget staff, state and federal land management agencies, private landowners, and non-governmental organizations to fulfill native species conservation goals. *Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Behaviors):* Thorough working knowledge of fisheries management principles & techniques of fish sampling methods and equipment, electrofishing and water safety, aquatic research methods & equipment, stream mechanics & habitat management are all important job qualifications. Other important considerations include thorough working knowledge of computer use for data processing, telemetry techniques and analysis, and statistical analysis, skills in writing, speaking and working Fish Management Biologist effectively with a broad spectrum of individuals, groups & agencies. The ability to operate a wide variety of vehicles, boats, motors, instruments and sampling equipment are needed, as well as the physical ability to do strenuous outdoor work in all weather conditions & locations ranging from valley bottom river and reservoirs to high altitude lakes and streams. A combination of excellent work habits, technical ability, applied knowledge and leadership/people skills is necessary for effectiveness in this position. *Physical and Environmental Demands:* This is a physically demanding position often involving backpack, mobile-probe electrofishing, or boom shocking with large and small watercraft, setting and pulling gill nets, trap nets, hoop nets, or seines accessing with boat or by personally hauling gear into slick, muddy or uneven terrain. Sampling can be strenuous when accessing reservoirs, lakes, ponds, streams and rivers while working from various jet, propeller and manually powered watercraft, and accessing areas by truck, ATV, snowmobile, motorcycle, or hiking to sample those flowing and flat waters found in each district. The incumbent must have the ability and willingness to work in and around water in adverse and hazardous conditions, including inclement hot and cold weather. The work schedule is variable, often requiring work outside of normal business days and hours and may involve overnight stays in remote field locations for a week or longer. // *Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):*** The knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the duties of this position are usually acquired through a Master's Degree in Fish and Wildlife Biology, Range Management, Zoology, or Fish and Wildlife Management, Biology or a closely related biological field including completion of a field research project presented in a successfully defended thesis. Equivalent experience is defined as five (5) years of progressively responsible experience as a fisheries/wildlife biologist or senior fisheries/wildlife technician, in addition to successful completion of a research effort that includes: Literature review and development of a problem statement and or hypothesis for a particular issue. Development of a detailed study plan or sampling protocol for a field-oriented project based on the above-noted hypothesis. Data collection and the effective management of data with an appropriate application. Interpretation and analysis of data, including a quantitative assessment of that information. Completion of a final report in a peer-reviewed publication or a publication comparable to a refereed journal. If appropriate to the project, formulation of any recommended changes in management prescriptions or actions. Oral presentation on results of investigation to agency staff or public audience.
