    PEP Outreach Assistant

    Required Qualifications (as evidenced by attached resume):

    Associate's Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) and one (1) year of full-time equivalent experience communication or outreach experience. Experience with a variety of media platforms including web, social, print, and/or radio/tv. Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.). Public speaking experience. Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 25 pounds as needed. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver’s License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. **(***Out-of-State Applicants, see "Special Notes”).**

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Environmental Science, Environmental Policy, Communication, Science Communication, Biology, Ecology, Marine Sciences, Oceanography, Environmental Management, Environmental Outreach/Education or related discipline. Experience working with communities, non-profit organizations, civic associations and / or Town Boards and elected officials. Knowledge of Peconic Estuary Partnership Goals and Actions. Experience tabling events. Experience with website management, to include WordPress and web content management.

    Brief Description of Duties:

    The Outreach Assistant will work to support the Peconic Estuary Partnership (PEP) and program staff, assisting in community outreach by establishing connections, scheduling meetings, and providing support at outreach events and dissemination of information. The successful incumbent will have excellent communication skills and the ability to cultivate strategic relationships with a broad range of media contacts on the local, state, and regional levels. They will have experience in developing and delivering science-related outreach and communications materials to the non-science and / or general public. This position will require working in marine and outdoor environments. Basic knowledge of pollution related issues on Long Island.

    Responsibilities will include:

    + **Outreach Development** :

    + Support Outreach Manager with planning and execution of community outreach events to the general public.

    + Communicate with the public on PEP and EPA programs and goals outlined in the 2020 Comprehensive Conservation Management Plan (CCMP).

    + Create presentations and reports on the topics to include but not limited to, water quality improvements, habitat restoration, and coastal science.

    + Update the PEP social media pages and website, in consultation with the PEP team; identify content, timing, and platform for social media posts.

    + Monitor and respond to engagement on social media platforms in coordination with other PEP staff.

    + Analyze and report on social outreach for PEP Committees, EPA, and internal evaluation. Develop content for PEP newsletters, fact sheets, and other publications.

    + Assist in the development of educational signage and materials, including Fact Sheets.

    + Utilize web and email marketing metrics to improve reachability and readership among targeted audiences.

    + Identify communication gaps, initiating new programs when necessary.

    + **Office Administration & Support**

    + Schedule meetings and events.

    + Contact stakeholders and establish connections to further outreach engagement.

    + Organize meeting logistics and provide necessary materials.

    + Keep detailed minutes during meetings.

    + Correspond with community groups as required.

    + Support email outreach for PEP news and events.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Special Notes:

    The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

    This position will work varied hours to include nights and weekends at times. This is a hybrid position and is based at PEP’s office in Riverhead, NY. This position requires extensive travel within the Peconic Watershed.

     

    ***Out-of-State Applicants: Please note as a condition of employment and in order for this position to be tendered, the successful incumbent will be required to provide evidence of a valid license and driving abstract from the state issuing the license within five business days of a conditional offer and must obtain a NYS driver's license within 30 days of start date.
