    Description of Work Unit

    Organizational Structure

     

    The AAC reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Success within the Division of Student Affairs. The AAC is made up of five different programs: Classic Student Support Services, Student Success and Outreach Initiative, STEM Student Support Services, McNair Scholars, and the College Assistance Migrant Programs.

    Position Summary

    The McNair Coordinator is a full-time professional staff member in the AAC . The Coordinator is responsible for providing individual and group services designed to enhance a student’s successful entry into post-baccalaureate education and leading academic success initiatives (internships, seminars, research opportunities) designed to prepare undergraduate students for doctoral study. In addition, the Coordinator will provide academic support for students, including coaching, mentoring, and advising. This position is also responsible for the recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of two McNair Graduate Support Assistants.

     

    Working hours and travel: This position is 100% in-person during regular business hours (8:00AM-5:00PM) with occasional flexed evening/weekend hours to attend student events – not to exceed 40 hours per week. The Senior Coordinator will travel up to 5% to serve as a student chaperone at conferences and other McNair events.

     

    Reporting Structure: Reports to the McNair Director

     

    This is a grant-funded appointment that ends 9/30/26 with the possibility of renewal depending upon satisfactory performance and ongoing funding.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree required

    + Minimum of one (1) year of appropriate and relevant professional experience working in a federal TRIO program or similar program/project; two years of graduate level work experience through assistantships or internships is equivalent to 1 year of professional experience

    + Minimum of one (1) year of experience using Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, One Drive)

    + Minimum one (1) year of experience coordinating and supervising programming, including workshops, training, and event planning with a moderate degree of supervision

    + Experience advising and assisting students with graduate school admissions, research, and the financial aid process

    + Demonstrated communication skills as evidenced from experience making public presentations to a variety of audiences, trainings, workshops, facilitations, or teaching

    + Managing cloud-based filing systems such as Microsoft One Drive

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + Master’s degree in a relevant field

    + One (1) year professional experience in a TRIO McNair Scholars Program

    + Experience with Student Access tracking software or similar

    + Experience hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating graduate student staff

    + Experience using software such as project management platforms like ASANA or Monday.com and visual suites like Canva or Adobe Acrobat a plus

    + Oversee student databases (Student Access, One Drive, Navigate, Aries, etc.) to ensure accurate and consistent inputting and management of student data and contact entry

    + Establishes relationships and collaborations with campus partners in the Division of Student Affairs, Tilt/ OURA , Office of Financial Aid, and Graduate School

    + Administer Program Satisfaction Survey and other assessments to program participants to evaluate participant outcomes and experiences, academic success, persistence, and retention in undergraduate and graduate education

    + Collaborate with the McNair Director and other AAC staff members to disseminate the project outcomes, and other relevant topics and issues relating to serving McNair scholars at conferences, workshops, etc.

    + Assist with the recruitment of scholars, including tracking and monitoring interest forms, checking eligibility, holding information sessions, and additional supports as needed

    + Collaborate with professional staff and campus partners on developing McNair orientation and welcome programs, organizing group travel, including research conferences

    + Lead the development and delivery of academic success initiatives for program participants

    + Lead the development and delivery of McNair seminars, workshops, and other graduate school preparation programming

    + Manage the McNair Canvas courses, including creating and uploading content, monitoring assignments, and grading quizzes

    + Plan, coordinate, and oversee marketing efforts for McNair which includes the following: maintaining websites, brochures, and social media. Ensure consistency of publications with university branding

    + Other programmatic and marketing duties as needed

    Meet one-on-one with students to accomplish all the following:

    + Assess the academic needs of individual students and develop appropriate plans in the pursuit of doctoral studies

    + Provide comprehensive support to students, which includes the following: goal/future planning, tracking of academic progress, referrals to appropriate resources, etc.

    + Provide proactive strategic outreach to students that may need additional support

    + Deliver other supports as needed in accordance with the McNair grant Plan of Operation
