About this Position

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
+ Operates the following heavy equipment, as needed:
+ Asphalt Distributor (truck mounted)
+ Backhoes
+ Front end loaders
+ Bucket/ladder trucks
+ Cranes/draglines (lifting capacity >20,000 lbs but <40,000 lbs
+ Dozers (<140 HP)
+ Dump truck (tandem axle or trailer dump)
+ Gradalls
+ Hot mix pavers (<40 HP)
+ Lowboys
+ Milling machines (<90 HP)
+ Road planer
+ Road widener (<90 HP)
+ Sewer Cleaners (truck mounted)
+ Striping machines
+ Sweepers
+ Track hoes (excavators)
+ Under bridge inspection units (trailer mounted)
+ Winch Truck
+ Motor Patrol/Grade
+ Performs manual labor required to maintain bridges such as change out timber piling, caps, stringers, deck boards, bridge expansion joints, lubricate movable bridge components, service movable bridge generators, cut and remove trees, guardrail/bridge rail repair, and fence repairs.
+ Makes minor repairs on equipment and performs preventative maintenance in order to maintain equipment in good operating condition. Operates smaller equipment, power tools and hand tools as necessary.
+ The incumbent may also be required to perform other duties as necessary, but not limited to, emergency/disaster support activities.
Position-Specific Details:
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a Probationary Appointment requiring 12-24 months on probation.
Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as a Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).
Work Schedule:The work schedule for this position is, 10-hour days, 4 days a week, off Monday or Friday.
Compensation: See below for starting hourly rate for each level, and the Premium Pay amount for the Mobile Equipment Operator 1, 2 and Heavy 1.
+ MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1– Valid Louisiana driver’s license will be required upon appointment.
+ Starting salary for MEO-1 is $16.06/hour with an additional $1.00/hour for all hours worked.
+ Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
+ MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2- Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
+ Starting salary for MEO-2 is $17.18/hour with an additional $1.00 for all hours worked.
+ Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status.
+ M OBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY - Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment.
+ Starting salary for MEO 1-HEAVY is $21.05/hour.
