Minimum Qualifications

Possession of a high school diploma or GED; OR

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

+ Utilizes a thorough knowledge and understanding of Department policies, standards, and specifications to conduct inspections of new and/or existing on-system and/or off-system bridges in an assigned area as required by the National Bridge Inspection Standards (23 CFR, Part 650, Subpmt C). Types of bridges inspected include small, large, and complex fixed (concrete, steel, timber spans, tunnels, and underpasses with pump stations) and movable (vertical lift, bascule, swing, and/or pontoon.

+ Takes lead in keeping accurate records of bridge inspections and enters data into appropriate computer database and/or application. May generate information required for bridge inspection reports as requested by Headquarters' Bridge Inspection personnel. Works with Headquarters personnel as needed to complete required Bridge Inspection reports. Collects required data and photographs for accident damage to on-system bridges.

+ Takes lead in working with local government officials and other public agencies to facilitate bridge inspections and the closing and/or opening of bridges.

+ Attends required training classes and receives on-the-job training in performing bridge inspections. May also provide on-the-job training or assistance to newer or lower level technicians.

+ May be required to be on call as well as perform other duties as necessary, including, but not limited to emergency/disaster support activities.

Career Progression: As part of a Career Progression Group, vacancies may be filled from this recruitment as an Bridge Inspector 1, 2, 3, or 4 depending on the level of experience of the selected applicant(s).

Work Schedule:Work hours may vary

Compensation:

Bridge Inspector 1- Starting salary is $16.03/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Bridge Inspector 2- Starting salary is $18.35/hourly with an additional $3.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Bridge Inspector 3- Starting salary is $19.63/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.

Bridge Inspector 4- Starting salary is $24.04/hourly with an additional $2.00 premium pay for every hour worked.
