Minimum Experience 0 Summary The Federal Reserve Board (Board) provides students opportunities for career success. The Board’s Internship program is designed to provide valuable work experience for graduate students considering careers including, but not limited to, economics, finance and accounting, information systems, and data analysis. The Board believes that by combining academic endeavors with project-related work experience, qualified and capable college students can gain the practical knowledge need in a competitive global job market. Internships are paid positions with salaries commensurate with credit hours; internships may be in-person, remote or hybrid, depending on the needs of the team. Employment in the Board’s internship program is granted to U.S. citizens. Applicants must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program at an accredited university and returning to continue studies after the internship. Interns receive a syllabus or research project plan outlining their projects and goals for the internship. Interns are assigned a supervisor or mentor to guide them through their internship, and regular check-in meetings with their manager to manage performance expectations and assist with learning goals. Interns have access to a wide range of training programs and events for professional development purposes. Position Requirements About the Team & Role The Digital Innovation Studies (DIS) team in our Division of Reserve Bank Operations & Payment Systems (RBOPS) delivers expertise on payment innovations to Federal Reserve decision makers by researching and conducting hands-on experimentation with technologies broadly relevant to payments, clearance, and settlement. As the DIS intern, you will support the team’s ongoing payment technologies research work. Potential projects would focus on topics such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, blockchain technology, digital assets and data analysis, but specific projects will depend on the intern’s knowledge and academic areas of interest. The team expects that you will contribute written work and some code products (i.e., Python, R, or JavaScript) as part of your assignments. The year-round intern is permitted to work up to 20 hours per week during the school year and is expected to work 40 hours per week during the summer months. About You (Background & Skills) Currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in economics, mathematics, computer science, operations research, financial engineering, or other quantitative discipline, graduating Aug '26 or later. Required Skills/Knowledge Ability to conduct and produce high-level research, demos, and presentations. Familiarity with at least one programming language (Python, Java, R, C /#, etc.) Experience with at least one operating system (Linux, Ubuntu, Windows, etc.) Grasp of MS Office Suite and SharePoint Preferred Skills/Background Experience with different machine learning algorithms or statistical methods. Previous experience with AWS products (EC2, CodeCommit, etc.) and blockchain networks (Ethereum, Solana, Hyperledger, etc.) Exposure to programming in C#/ , Java/JQuery Please upload a resume, cover letter, & unofficial transcript prior to submitting your application.   Requirements U.S. Citizenship required Applicant must be a current student, graduating from their program August 2026 or later.
