• Patient Care Technician

    UPMC (Somerset, PA)


    UPMC Somerset is seeking a compassionate and skilled Patient Care Technician to support our Same Day Services team. This role is ideal for candidates with prior patient care experience who are committed to delivering high-quality care in a fast-paced outpatient setting.

     

    + Schedule: Full-Time (8-hour shifts)

    + Hours: Daylight, Monday-Friday No weekends or holidays required

    Responsibilities:

    + Provide routine patient care and assist with procedures and daily living activities under nurse or physician direction.

    + Perform core nursing assistant duties including vital signs, blood glucose checks, I&O, weights, specimen collection, and Foley care.

    + Complete at least four advanced tasks such as phlebotomy, EKGs, simple dressings, catheter care, or IV removal.

    + Support physical, respiratory, and cardiopulmonary therapies and report changes in patient status to the RN.

    + Maintain effective communication with team members and contribute to unit-wide activities like call light response and patient transport.

    + Educate patients and families under RN guidance and assist with restraint protocols per hospital policy.

    + Demonstrate professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to workplace safety.

    + Adhere strictly to hospital policies, safety procedures, and infection control standards.

    + Participate in department initiatives, receive feedback constructively, and seek opportunities for growth.

    + Document care accurately and complete clerical tasks as needed to support department operations.

    + High school diploma or equivalent.

    + If no previous hospital or pre-hospital training, successful completion of:

    + UPMC patient care technician class OR Successful completion of EIC training program OR successful completion of first year of clinical work in a nursing program.

    + Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or Paramedic or currently enrolled in an EMT or Paramedic program preferred.

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

    + Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)

    + CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

    + Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal

    + Act 33 with renewal

    + Act 34 with renewal

    + Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
