    Job Description

    The Iowa Vocational Rehabilitation Team at Iowa Workforce Development is accepting applications for full-time Rehabilitation Technology Specialist role in our IowaWORKSoffices

     

    Domicile will be determined based on the hired candidate’s location at one of our IowaWorkscenters.

    Job Description and Responsibilities:

    Provide consultation and guidance to IVRS staff on assistive technology, rehabilitation technology and related services. Assist staff in researching and identifying products and services, assist in facilitating communication with vendors and arranging appropriate purchases, and ensuring processes are followed when purchasing goods and services. Communicate with job candidates directly, when needed, to gain awareness of needs impacting employment.

     

    Analyze disability information to determine appropriate technology and service needs. Provide information to job candidates on options, including comparable services and benefits and other funding sources, available and ensuring they understand financial obligations so they can make informed choices. Understand and communicate full scope of driver evaluation, training, and vehicle modification process and home modification process. Promote a culture of increasing knowledge and awareness of technology within the agency.

     

    Develop and maintain relationships and collaborate with a variety of partners that provide assistive technology and rehabilitation technology products and services (e.g., Easter Seals Assistive Technology, Rural Solutions, etc.). Provide consultation and technical assistance to employers and partners on assistive and rehabilitation technology needs of individuals with disabilities and reasonable accommodations. Perform assessments at worksites, when needed, and provide recommendations.

     

    Present at conferences and conduct trainings on assistive and rehabilitation technology and participate in community events and efforts to education the public and business on the value of technology.

     

    Participate in special programs and grants IVRS receives, providing information and technical assistance in the areas of assistive and rehabilitation technology and promoting the philosophy of Technology First.

     

    Assist the Assistant Bureau Chief with managing contracts and agreements with third party vendors on a statewide basis in accordance with federal regulations and state contracting requirements. Work collaboratively with vendors, field staff, and purchasing agent to ensure that processes are followed when purchasing rehabilitation technology goods and services. Communicate with vendors when concerns or problems arise and identify strategies and solutions to keep services moving forward.

     

    The successful candidate must be able to pass a criminal background check conducted by the Iowa Department of Public Safety.

     

    Preferred but not required

     

    Certified Benefits Planner (CWIC) preferred or ability to obtain.

    Minimum Qualification Requirements

     

    Graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in civil, industrial, mechanical, architectural, electrical or rehabilitation engineering and experience equal to one year of full-time work in the design, development and fabrication of mechanical or electrical components or assemblies for products such as industrial equipment, machinery, power equipment, service systems, machine tools and measuring instruments;

    OR

    an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of professional work experience as indicated above for one year (thirty semester or equivalent hours) of the required education to a maximum of four years.
