Job Description
The Reliability Engineer shall ensure the durability, performance, reliability, and sustainability of lottery retail point-of-sale terminals; public self-service kiosks and devices; interconnection devices, and other related equipment and accessories. This role involved designing, executing, and reporting rigorous testing protocols; analyzing failure modes during product design through implementation; and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality and compliance with industry and corporate standards.
Key Responsibilities:
• Test Planning & Execution
o Develop and implement comprehensive reliability test plans for lottery POS terminals, self-service kiosks and devices, including environmental, mechanical, and electrical stress testing (e.g., thermal cycling, vibration, humidity, special paper conditions, paper movement, power situations, intrusions, shipping, etc.).
o Conduct accelerated life testing to identify weaknesses and predict product lifespans.
o Compile and analyze performance reports and process control statistics; investigate and analyze relevant variables potentially affecting product and processes.
o Develop, coordinate and conduct technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.
o Develop mathematical models that define product and sub-system reliability
o Conduct mean time before failure (MTBF) calculations for all products and throughout product changes.
o Ensure that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards
o Recommend design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving proper levels of product reliability.
o Provide recommendations to a variety of components, products and processes design problems
o Simulate real-world usage conditions to validate performance under heavy customer interactions and diverse environmental conditions.
o Work with operations and field service teams for beta testing and field trials of early-deployed product and prototypes.
o Conduct testing using early prototypes and mockups.
o Publish results of Engineering Verification Testing (EVT) and Design Verification Testing (DVT)
o Process and respond to factory Production Verification Testing (PVT)
o Coordinate product submissions for agency testing at independent labs. Coordinate product issues and corrections for agency tests.
o Personally conducts tests as necessary - maintain engineering test lab.
• Failure and Root Cause Investigations
o Analyze test data and field failures to identify root causes of electromechanical issues using tools like FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) and 8D Problem-Solving.
o Document and report failure modes, proposing design improvements to enhance reliability and user experiences.
• Collaborate & Cross-Functional Support
o Work closely with hardware, firmware, software, manufacturing, and field service teams to integrate reliability considerations into the product development lifecycle.
o Provide technical guidance to ensure designs meet regulatory standards (e.g. UL, CE, FCC, and others) and any lottery-specific industry requirements
• Performance Monitoring and Metrics
o Maintain detailed test reports, reliability models, and documentation for internal teams and regulatory audits of contract manufacturers worldwide.
o Present findings and recommendations to stakeholders, including engineering, procurement, manufacturing, product management, and other related teams.
• Continuous Improvement
o Maintain informative updates related to advancements in reliability engineering, electromechanical systems, and lottery industry product trends.
o Drive initiatives to improve testing methodologies, maintain efficient costs, and enhance product robustness.
