Job Description

The Data Engineer position will be located on-site in Fairfax, VA, and may require some on-site support at the Pentagon. The Army PPB BOS program is seeking a data warehouse engineer who will make significant and ongoing contributions to the maturation of our data-driven processes.

The ideal candidate possesses both the analytical aptitude and problem-solving skillset necessary for extracting value from a collection of novel data sets. Additionally, the candidate should possess working experience with the latest data warehousing trends/toolsets and implementation methods. This position is intended for an expert in data engineering with a proven track record of leading enterprise-level data initiatives. The candidate will provide strategic guidance, lead complex data architecture efforts, and serve as a technical authority across the program. This role requires exceptional analytical capabilities, leadership skills, and the ability to influence data strategy at the highest levels. Other responsibilities may include data modeling, query tuning, performance tuning, troubleshooting, database development and testing.

The candidate will work alongside a team of DB developers and other members of the program. The candidate will determine user needs, analyze system capabilities to achieve desired results and ensure software standards are met. The candidate will be a self-starter, team-player and work under general supervision. The candidate will be expected to complete the tasks in a fast-paced results driven environment.

Skills and Requirements

Basic Qualifications:

• 10+ years’ experience with bachelor’s degree in computer science or related engineering discipline

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience developing data warehouse process models, including sourcing, loading, transforming and extracting data sets

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience with design and implementation of data warehousing technologies including relational and nonrelational databases, SQL, and data analytics

• A minimum of 5 years’ experience supporting Oracle database management systems running on Windows or Linux

• Oracle development and administration

• Experience in full lifecycle project development

• US citizenship with an active Secret Clearance Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s degree or equivalent experience in Data Engineering, Computer Science, or related field

• Experience advising senior leadership or government stakeholders

• Understanding and working knowledge of industry standards and techniques for enterprise database systems and data warehousing

• Certifications in advanced data technologies (e.g., AWS Certified Data Analytics)

• Certified Oracle Database Administrator

• Knowledge of Amazon Web Service (AWS)

• Knowledge of Hierarchical Data Structures

• Experience working with PostgreSQL and Redshift

• Proficiency with technologies like Apache, Hadoop, Spark, and Kafka

• Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau, Power BI, Matplotlib, and Seaborn

• Experience with JIRA, Jenkins, or Git

• Experience working in an agile or iterative development environment

• An interest in data science areas such as data visualization, big data, machine learning, data analysis and data wrangling
