    Job Summary

    Provides health care services for all age groups by performing PET and/or general Nuclear Medicine imaging, including radioisotope preparation, quality control, data acquisition and processing. Image and data results are submitted for interpretation by Nuclear Medicine physicians. Exercises professional judgment in the performance of this service following the Code of Conduct of the appropriate certification board (CNMT, ARRT(N)). Provides appropriate patient care following the Radiology Gold Service Excellence guidelines to achieve successful completion of the procedure. Contributes as a team member to enhance job stewardship mindful of Internal and External customer service standards.

    Responsibilities*

    + Operates nuclear medicine imaging equipment to produce diagnostic images for interpretation by qualified physicians.

    + Operates ancillary nuclear medicine equipment to collect and prepare patient data on non-imaging studies for interpretation by qualified physicians.

    + Corroborates the patient's clinical history and the exam ordered following patient identification guidelines.

    + Receive, verify, relay, and document verbal, written, and electronic orders in the patient?s medical record.

    + Prepares and calculate proper doses of radioactive isotopes for administration to patients.

    + Follows all radiation safety procedures and regulations.

    + Performs duties outlined within the Nuclear Medicine Technologist Scope of Practice as defined by the Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging.

    + Assists Patients in proper positioning while respecting the patient's condition and abilities.

    + May be responsible for implementation of new procedures relevant to specialty.

    + May perform and demonstrate technically difficult examinations and data processing as these apply to the sub-specialty.

    + Perform and maintain current quality control standards and records for equipment

    + May supervise scheduling of nuclear medicine studies and diagnostic equipment.

    + Maintains records of test results, utilization and disposition of isotopes and radioactive materials and calculate test results.

    + Understand and apply guest relation skills following the Patient and Families First Principles. Explains examination procedure to patient and family, if present

    + Work consistently as a team member willing to assist everyone, crossing modalities when needed.

    + Trains nuclear medicine students on all aspects of nuclear medicine technology.

    + Possess a positive work ethic to enhance teamwork in a fast-paced environment and is accountable for actions.

    + All other related duties.

    RELATED DUTIES

    + Identify and enter data into the Radiology Information System and the PACS.

    + Monitor the Order Entries for all patient exams.

    + Educate and monitor mandatory competencies for patient safety, infection control, fire safety, corporate compliance, and patient confidentiality. Including additional assigned educational modules for self-improvement.

    + Maintain BCLS Certification and NMTCB or ARRT Registry.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + The ability to meet the Nuclear Medicine Technologist's professional role expectations defined as, critical thinking skills, interpersonal behavioral and social skills including communication, physical mobility (pushing, pulling, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds) and motor skills demonstrating gross and fine motor abilities, sensory abilities of speech, hearing, touch and visual observation, and cognitive attention for patient safety.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    General supervision is received from the designated Nuclear Medicine Radiology Manager, Nuclear Medicine Supervisor, faculty physicians or other designated official.

    Required Qualifications*

    This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

    Nuclear Medicine Technologist:

    + Associates or bachelors degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related science field with completion of an accredited certification program in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

    + Registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Association for Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board upon hire/transfer.

    + BLS certification or eligibility for certification.

    + This classification requires Primary Source Verification

    Nuclear Medicine Technologist Graduate:

    + Associates or bachelors degree in Nuclear Medicine Technology or a related science field with completion of an accredited certification program in Nuclear Medicine Technology.

    + Registration as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist by the American Association for Radiologic Technology or Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board within 6 months of hire/transfer.

    + BLS certification or eligibility for certification.

    + This classification requires Primary Source Verification

    Desired Qualifications*

    + B.S. in Nuclear Medicine Technology and extensive training in SPECT and PET

     

    Work Schedule

     

    Shifts include 8-hour day shifts starting between 7 AM and 9 AM and rotational afternoon shifts from noon-8 PM. Other off-shift coverage, as needed per department, to include 3 PM - 11:30 PM, weekend days, and 10 hr shifts of 8 PM to 6 AM (M-Th). On-call hours also required. 40 hours per week.

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
