    Job Summary

The Institute for Research on Innovation and Science (IRIS (https://iris.isr.umich.edu/) ) invites applications for a one-year, with potential for renewal for up to an additional three years, post-doctoral position with funding under a new, 4-year R01 award from the National Library of Medicine.

IRIS is an IRB-approved data repository that collects, integrates, warehouses, and makes available both restricted and publicly available data on the social and economic impact of academic research and training. IRIS is directed by Professor Jason Owen-Smith and is housed in the University of Michigan's Institute for Social Research (ISR). ISR is the world's largest academic social science survey and research organization and conducts some of the most widely cited and influential social science research in the field. See iris.isr.umich.edu for more details.

The focus of this post-doctoral research will be research, data analysis, drafting and publishing research articles, and other scholarly outcomes that arise from a four-year project that uses temporal embeddings of large, heterogeneous scientific knowledge graphs to develop and test new measures of innovative potential. The project will also assess how these measures relate to multiple indicators of research impact in biomedical research, with a particular focus on Alzheimer's disease, mental health, and substance use disorders.

The post-doc will be primarily responsible for data management, analysis, writing and dissemination (through presentation and publication) of findings derived from analysis of large scale, time aware knowledge graph representations of science and technology metadata that will be designed and implemented in collaboration with Owen-Smith and other members of the IRIS team. Familiarity and demonstrated expertise with network and computational science methods, science of science research, creation and manipulation of large-scale knowledge graphs, graph and semantic embedding techniques, and/or use of high-performance computing resources in research will contribute to the strength of your application.

    Required Qualifications*

+ Applicants must have successfully completed a dissertation defense and earned a Ph.D. before beginning the fellowship. Fellows will be part of the IRIS research team and will report directly to IRIS Executive Director Jason Owen-Smith.

    Desired Qualifications*

+ Familiarity with knowledge graph/heterogenous network data structures and their manipulation

+ Demonstrated expertise in the application of HPC resources for scientific computing

+ Experience with Graph and text embedding tools

+ Research experience using inferential statistical methods with particular applications to panel and limited dependent variable data

+ Expertise relevant to US federal science policy and research funding procedures
