    Occupational Therapist Clinical Specialist - Pavilion

    Job Summary

    Evaluate, interpret, plan and implement specific treatment programs for both individuals and groups of patients to restore ADL and maximize performance. To coordinate the occupational therapy care for all patients assigned to a team; and to train Occupational Therapists in techniques related to the area of clinical expertise.

    Responsibilities*

    + Evaluate, plan, implement, evaluate and modify patient treatment programs and activities.

    + Interpret referrals and ensure necessary precautions are identified.

    + Develop focused individually designed treatment plans based on the patients functional goals.

    + Utilized independent clinical decision making on a daily basis to progress patients and modify treatment depending on the patients need and medical/psychological status. Institute changes in programs in areas of expertise.

    + Train and supervise Occupational Therapy staff, fellows and students in the application of treatment programs.

    + Orient new staff to policies, procedures and programs within the specialty area.

    + Assist staff with program planning, development and implementation.

    + Develop materials for patient, family, and staff education.

    + Develop learning materials for new staff and students in the specialty area.

    + Demonstrate the use of special equipment in instruction of Occupational Therapy staff.

    + Initiate patient treatment when referral is made to specialty area.

    + Participate in the development and maintenance of a team approach to patient treatment.

    + Represent the occupational Therapy Division at specialty conferences, medical rounds, classes, workshops and in-services.

    + Assist in the evaluation of team members.

    + Initiate, participate in and coordinate research in area of expertise.

    + Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain areas.

    + Perform other related duties as assigned.

    SUPERVISION RECEIVED

    General supervision is received from an Occupational Therapy Supervisor, or Director of the Occupational Therapy Division.

    SUPERVISION EXCERCISED

    Functional supervision is exercised over Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, and students.

    Required Qualifications*

    + If licensed before 1/1/2007: Bachelors degree in Occupational Therapy.

    + If licensed on or after 1/1/2007: Masters or Doctorate degree in Occupational Therapy.

    + Satisfactory completion of an internship program.

    + Current Michigan Registration in Occupational Therapy and NBCOT membership.

    + Reasonable progressively responsible experience in Occupational Therapy.

    + Some experience in teaching and continuing education in specialty area.

    + Some experience in supervision

    + This classification requires Primary Source Verification.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + This position requires extensive standing/walking, as well as lifting, positioning, pushing, and/or transferring of patients.

    Union Affiliation

     

    This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

     

    Background Screening

     

    Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
