    Job Summary:

    As the Sr. SQL Developer, you will provide technical leadership in the development of data to be used for reporting on Energy & Transportation (E&T) business and/or development, integration and implementation of data projects. You will apply data systems solutions to business/technical problems through business unit interactions, and designs, programs, debugs, tests, and integration/implementation of complex, medium to large-sized automated data systems or data projects.

     

    This position reports to the Data Manager, as do other staff jobs in application systems and technical data sections. Responsibilities of this individual are across E&T segments in aggregating data for analysis or reporting and/or maintenance or performance enhancement of existing database or data systems.

    What You Will Do:

    + Competent to perform all programming, project management, and development assignments without close supervision; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.

    + Acts as team leader for development and support groups; provides programming, database and application/technical leadership, guidance, and assistance to other team members.

    + Works directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution.

    + Works independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or reporting systems.

    + Develops major system modules, programs or integrates new database components based on requirements gathered from our E&T partners.

    + Performs integrated testing and customer acceptance testing of components that require careful planning and execution to ensure timely, quality results.

    + Fully knowledgeable of the relevant programming languages, program design and specification development, programming logic, logic diagrams, system analysis techniques, testing, debugging, documentation standards, file design, storage and internal systems and cross platform infrastructure components; can provide training on these topics for others.

    + Assists industry partners and dealers with documentation, training and usability efforts.

    + Integrates processes across functional organizations.

    + Develop industry reports based on CVA analytics as requested.

     

    The position manages the completion of its own work assignments and coordinates work with others across multiple business units. Based on past experiences and knowledge, the individual normally works independently with minimal management input and review of end results.

     

    Typical customers include Caterpillar E&T segments, and dealers who use our E&T services data offered by Caterpillar. The position is challenged to quickly and correctly identify problems that may not be obvious. The incumbent solves problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. They will sets priorities and establishes a work plan in order to complete broadly defined assignments and achieve desired results. The position participates in brainstorming sessions focused on developing new approaches to meeting quality goals in the measure(s) stated.

    What You Will Have:

    + **Data Warehousing** : Expert knowledge of how to collect data from different information sources and distribute them to users; ability to simplify information systems and make sound business decisions.

    + **Technical Troubleshooting** : Extensive knowledge of technical troubleshooting approaches, tools and techniques; ability to anticipate, recognize, and resolve technical issues on hardware, software, application or operation.

    + **Effective Communications** : Working understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

    Considerations for Top Candidates:

    + Requires a relevant degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience.

    + Extensive SQL development experience (typically 5+ years)

    + Prior database experience

    + Must be able to read and interrupt Python

    + Must be able to work independently

    + Prior experience using Snowflake

    + Experience in transforming data using a visualization tool

    + Experience building data models on databases

    + Prior experience using SAS to read and translate ProcSQL from SAS to Procedures in Snowflake

    + VS Code, DevOps, and Github

    This position requires the candidate to **work full-time at the Peoria, IL office.**

    Summary Pay Range:

    $110,520.00 - $165,840.00

     

    Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
