    Job description

    The primary responsibility is to work closely with other members of the engineering staff to define the equipment architecture, detail drawings, bearing selection and definition of materials. Will be responsible for conducting equipment failure analysis as well as conducting static, fatigue and dynamics analyses of mechanical components and mechanisms using both classical methods and FEA software. Will assist Quality department and support OEM Production as needed.

     

    Will be in charge of writing Qualification Test Plans (QTP), Qualification Test Reports (QTR), Qualification Justification Notes (QJN) and manage qualification tests.

     

    May also be responsible to manage some development projects, in particular projects to reuse/modify an existing fan.

    RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

    • All aspects of the product mechanical design.

    • Work closely with French and US engineering team from concept to production.

    • Able to interpret equipment requirements to translate to design of mechanical components.

    • Able to conduct equipment failure analysis for equipment. This include mechanical and electrical components.

    • Perform component and mechanism analytical calculations such as but not limited to rotor dynamics, thermal analysis, bearing selection.

    • Perform analysis of FEA reports

    • Assist team members in the design of the equipment including material selection, equipment architecture and design for manufacturing.

    • Conduct tolerance studies.

    • Create detail and assembly drawings.

    • Create product Bill of material

    • Work closely with Quality, Supply Chain and Production departments to support the development of new programs as well as to support serial production.

    • Integrate electrical components/subassemblies in the equipment

    • Provide test and evaluation support including input to Acceptance Test Procedures (ATP)

    • Write QTP, QTR, QJN and various other technical documents.

    • Manage qualification tests at external laboratories

    • Mentoring colleagues

    • Elaborate and manage schedule

    • Manage project reviews internally and with customer

     

    Candidate skills & requirements

    EDUCATION:

    • BS or MS in mechanical or aerospace engineering

    • 5 -8 years engineering experience in the aircraft or related industry

    SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS:

    • Good knowledge of aerospace procedures, tools and hardware, MIL specs.

    • Solid with test setups and related data acquisition devices and equipment

    • Strong mechanical aptitude assumed

    • Self-starter with initiative, being effective with the ability to work independently or within a cross functional team toward achieving results

    • SolidWorks stress analysis, mechanical motion modeling, and weight and balance analysis.

    • Good understanding of various commercial aircraft (i.e., MIL-STD-810 / RTCA-DO-160 / Boeing D6 and Airbus ABD) requirements

    • Knowledge of industry design practices, fasteners, materials, component parts, and ability to search and specify new supplied parts.

    • Strong understanding of manufacturing methods, design-for-manufacturing, manufacturing cost concepts, and materials.

    • Experience designing for minimum parts count.

    • Experience designing for thermal considerations, strength, rigidity, and vibration requirements, designing for weight reduction.

    • Good understanding of aircraft plumbing, hydraulics and refrigeration.

    • Good understanding of aircraft structure and placement of components within the structure.

    • Experienced in electrical harness assembly process with the knowledge of specification controlled techniques such as soldering and crimping.

    • Excellent technical understanding of drafting standards (ANSI Y14.5)

    • Must be self-motivated and capable of working with minimal supervision

    • Adaptable to changing environments and handle multiple tasks and/or projects simultaneously.

    • Strong technical knowledge about aircraft industry standard design practices

    • Excellent technical knowledge about industry standard CAD software, especially CATIA V5.

    • Team oriented and able to work collaboratively and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.

    • Strong communication skills

    • Excellent mechanical aptitude and knowledge

    • Strong understanding of certification process for aircraft interiors (FAA/EASA/JAA/CAA).

    • Strong understanding of airframe OEM requirements.

    • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet time deadlines

    Computer Skills:

    • MS Windows

    • Basic knowledge Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

    • Knowledge and skill in use of windchill PLM software

    • Knowledge about industry standard 3D Solid Modeling using Pro-E (CREO)

    • Knowledge in the use of NC machines. Knowledge of CAD & CAM and use in making shop aids and machining functions.
