    Autodesk's Entertainment & Media Solutions (EMS) team is on a mission to enable anyone, anywhere, to create incredible digital entertainment.     As a Distinguished Software Development Engineer focused on our EMS applications and the Flow platform, you will engage at all levels with an experienced cross-disciplinary staff. You will be solving deep technological problems connected to human systems and building innovative solutions in a fast-paced environment working with smart and passionate developers. You must have hands-on development experience on multiple platforms as well as web services. Your responsibilities will include owning the overarching solution, working closely with software engineering teams to bridge key technical relationships, and driving projects towards success. You will work closely with product owners and software engineering teams to define the roadmap, architecture, and success metrics for new system capabilities, and influence the broader Autodesk EMS Cloud products.

     

    You’ll help establish technical standards and drive engineering practices. You’ll work on Autodesk’s hardest problems - building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. The ideal candidate will possess excellent customer engagement and communication skills as well as the technical background to fluently interact and provide guidance to software developers and architects.

     

    As a senior technical individual contributor, you will join the ranks of a large and growing community of Distinguished, Sr. Distinguished and Fellow Engineers/Architects. As such, you’ll be a technical leader. You’ll help establish technical standards and drive Autodesk’s overall technical architecture and engineering practices. You’ll work on Autodesk’s hardest problems, building high quality, architecturally sound systems that are aligned with our business needs. Autodesk senior technical contributors are pragmatic visionaries who can translate business needs into workable technology solutions. Your expertise is deep and broad; you’re hands on, producing both detailed technical work and high-level architectural designs.

     

    The ideal candidate will be a visionary leader, builder and operator. You’ll have experience leading or contributing to multiple simultaneous product development initiatives. You’ll be able to balance technical leadership with strong business judgment to make the right decisions about technology choices. You’ll strive for simplicity and demonstrate significant creativity and high judgment.

    Responsibilities

    + Serve as a technical expert on our most demanding, cross-functional projects, and develop innovative solutions with little or no precedent

    + Lead product and engineering teams in thinking differently on how to solve the most complex and unique challenges

    + Oversee advanced product development activities where outcomes have significant long-term impact on company’s success

    + Define and ensure the quality of architecture and design of systems

    + Functionally decompose complex problems into simple, straight-forward solutions

    + Possess expert knowledge in performance, scalability, enterprise system architecture, and engineering best practices

    + Assist in the career development of others, actively mentoring individuals and the Autodesk developer community on advanced technical issues and helping managers guide the career growth of their team members

    + Exert technical influence over multiple teams, increasing their productivity and effectiveness by sharing your deep knowledge and experience

    + Anticipate market needs and influence the development of product strategies and objectives, including new industry group applications or functionality that require significant resource investments

    + Effectively research and benchmark Autodesk technology against other competing systems in the industry

    + Contribute intellectual property through patent generation

    Minimum Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree and/or master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience

    + 15+ years of relevant, broad engineering experience

    + Proven track record of leading the delivery of large-scale, high-quality systems

    + Experience delivering complex, service-oriented software development using innovative solutions

    + Experience managing complex projects, with significant strategic impact

    + Experience leading development life cycle process and best practices

    + Experience mentoring/training an engineering community on complex technical issues

    + Experience building with native Cloud platform or services

    Preferred Qualifications

    + Advanced degree in Computer Science or a related field

    + Deep hands-on technical expertise in delivering solutions in at least two or three major technical areas; e.g. large-scale systems engineering, complex distributed systems, machine learning & data science, monitoring or management tools for large-scale environments, etc.

    + 2+ years as the technical lead for an organization of 50+ software developers/engineers

    + Ability and willingness to multi-task and learn new technologies quickly

    + Experience in AWS services

    Salary transparency

     

    Salary is one part of Autodesk’s competitive compensation package. For U.S.-based roles, we expect a starting base salary between $188,400 and $304,700. Offers are based on the candidate’s experience and geographic location, and may exceed this range. In addition to base salaries, our compensation package may include annual cash bonuses, commissions for sales roles, stock grants, and a comprehensive benefits package.
