    In this position...

     

    This role will lead Ford's global Center of Excellence for naming and taxonomy, reporting to the Global Director of Brand Strategy and collaborating closely with the Nomenclature Program Operations Lead. As Strategy Director, Nomenclature, you'll elevate nomenclature from tactical execution to strategic competitive advantage—developing scalable naming architectures that reinforce brand equity, enable portfolio expansion, and drive measurable business outcomes across Ford's entire product and service portfolio.

     

    You'll be accountable for building and leading high-performing teams, establishing enterprise-wide naming standards, and ensuring all nomenclature decisions advance our broader brand strategy while meeting stringent legal and trademark requirements. This is an opportunity to transform linguistic creativity into business strategy, delivering naming solutions that are culturally resonant, commercially powerful, and systematically designed to scale across global markets and future product innovations.

     

    We seek a proven leader who combines deep expertise in brand linguistics and semiotics with executive-level business acumen, demonstrating mastery in both creative innovation and strategic execution. You should possess exceptional creative fluency paired with rigorous strategic discipline, bringing sophisticated understanding of global market dynamics, cultural nuances, and regulatory landscapes.

     

    Excellence in executive facilitation and stakeholder orchestration is essential—you'll navigate intricate organizational politics while maintaining clear strategic vision. This role requires a visionary nomenclature expert who can set strategic direction for the team while personally driving complex naming initiatives that deliver competitive advantage.

     

    What you'll do...

     

    + Orchestrate enterprise-wide nomenclature strategy across multiple concurrent programs, ensuring portfolio coherence and strategic alignment with business objectives

    + Architect comprehensive naming frameworks that integrate business strategy, brand positioning, competitive intelligence, and global market insights to drive sustainable competitive advantage

    + Lead and develop a high-performing nomenclature team, including hiring, mentoring, and performance management while establishing career development pathways and specialized expertise areas

    + Executive stakeholder management and influence, presenting nomenclature strategies to senior leadership, securing buy-in for complex naming decisions, and navigating conflicting organizational priorities

    + Design and optimize naming processes and methodologies, implementing scalable workflows, governance structures, and quality assurance protocols that ensure consistency across global markets

    + Establish and govern naming architecture standards, creating enterprise-wide guidelines that enable portfolio expansion while protecting brand equity and ensuring trademark defensibility

    + Drive innovation in naming methodologies, leveraging emerging technologies, cultural trends, and market intelligence to maintain competitive edge in nomenclature excellence

     

    You'll have...

     

    + Relevant experience leading nomenclature strategy in a large matrixed organization.

    + 10+ years working in brand strategy and nomenclature brand side or agency

    + 5+ years leading nomenclature projects brand side or agency

     

    Even better, you may have...

     

    + At least 2 years working on the brand side in a direct stakeholder facing role

    + Experience writing brand strategy/ naming briefs

    + Experience in naming that spans hardware, software, products, services and experiences

    + Concrete example of products that you’ve named

    + Experience managing stakeholders in a matrixed environment

    + Ability to commission research and analyze data

    + Experience managing for complexity and volume

    + Experience implementing intake systems
