General Summary:

The Digital Incubator & Applied AI team is a dynamic, interdisciplinary group of digital strategists, product innovators, data scientists, and technical experts. We provide forward-thinking digital leadership to shape business strategies and incubate next-generation, cloud-based digital and analytical solutions. From concept to launch, we rapidly drive ideas forward—taking smart, strategic risks to deliver innovative offerings that create real impact.

We are looking to hire a Senior Business Analyst – IT to join our team. Senior Business Analysts are responsible for ensuring the delivery of defined business objectives within agile teams. They play a key role in advancing business solutions across a broad portfolio by collaborating closely with IT Leadership, Product Owners, Business SMEs, and Business Architects. The Senior Business Analyst will identify and champion opportunities where strategic investment can enhance customer and company outcomes.

Job Specifications

+ Bachelor’s degree required; relevant professional qualifications or equivalent industry experience accepted.

+ 6+ years of experience delivering business solutions in agile environments.

+ Proven success in software solution delivery and business value creation.

+ Strong analytical mindset with a focus on metrics, KPIs, and ROI.

+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable leading discussions across diverse stakeholder groups.

+ Demonstrated ability to work across functional teams and manage ambiguity.

+ Strong knowledge of insurance or relevant industry preferred.

+ Enthusiasm for continuous learning, innovation, and problem-solving.

+ Relevant certifications (e.g., CBAP, PMI-PBA, SAFe, Scrum) strongly encouraged.

Duties and Responsibilities

+ Maintain a holistic understanding of the IT Delivery roadmap and ensure alignment within backlog tools to support automated roadmaps, metrics, and reporting.

+ Ensure key product/adoption KPIs are measurable and tracked throughout development, identifying supporting trends that may impact success.

+ Leverage client personas to refine work items and ensure shared understanding of user needs within the agile team.

+ Ensure backlog quality by writing concise user stories with clear acceptance criteria, traceable to source, and aligned to enterprise standards for planning and decomposition.

+ Collaborate with Business Architects, Product Owners, and SMEs to define user stories from capability roadmaps, covering both functional and non-functional requirements.

+ Work with architects, engineers, and testers to ensure backlog items are clearly understood and deliver high-quality outcomes that meet expectations.

+ Analyze and map business processes and systems using enterprise toolsets (e.g., Blueworks, Excel).

+ Partner with UX designers to integrate user needs and personas into backlog items and requirements.

+ Conduct industry and technology research to identify trends and recommend relevant applications within Unum’s business context.

+ Evaluate native functionality of third-party/cloud solutions and assess their fit for business needs (e.g., layouts, workflows, dashboards).

+ Assess and prioritize change requests, ensuring impacts to existing applications are evaluated and managed appropriately.

+ Collaborate on testing activities and acceptance validation to ensure successful delivery of features.

+ Contribute to agile team ceremonies (e.g., stand-ups, retrospectives) and support continuous improvement through value stream mapping and process optimization.

+ Promote innovation by identifying opportunities to improve delivery processes and adopt new technologies or techniques.

+ Support Chief Product Owner and Product Owner with backlog grooming and prioritization, ensuring key data is accurate and available for decision-making.

+ Ensure Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools are up to date; communicate progress and impediments effectively.

+ Model and promote best practices in agile methodologies, customer journey mapping, and program execution frameworks.

+ Mentor junior Business Analysts to uphold standards and foster skill development within the team.

+ May serve as Scrum Master for the agile team if needed.

The base salary range for applicants for this position is listed below. Unless actual salary is indicated above in the job description, actual pay will be based on skill, geographical location and experience.

$89,400.00-$183,500.00

Additionally, Unum offers a portfolio of benefits and rewards that are competitive and comprehensive including healthcare benefits (health, vision, dental), insurance benefits (short & long-term disability), performance-based incentive plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) retirement plan with an employer match up to 5% and an additional 4.5% contribution whether you contribute to the plan or not. All benefits are subject to the terms and conditions of individual Plans.
