    Reporting to the Director of Benefits, the Temporary Benefits Assistant will support the Benefits team with the administration of the University’s benefit programs for approximately 1,000 employees. These programs include health, dental, retirement, life, workers compensation, short- and long-term disability, paid time off, employee and dependent education assistance programs and other related plans.

    Responsibilities include:

    + Assists with administering benefit plans including: health, dental, life, FSA, HSA, EAP, COBRA and life continuation, mortgage assistance, and dependent tuition plans. May assist with administrative tasks related to retirement, retiree benefits, disability, leave of absence and other benefit plans.

    + Assists employees with benefit and annual enrollment, qualifying life status events and benefit claims and issues.

    + Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information. Ensures benefit changes are entered appropriately in payroll system for payroll deduction, including arrears. Performs quality checks of benefits-related data.

    + Must be familiar with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, Medicare/Medicaid and COBRA compliance.

    + Provides excellent customer service for Wesleyan employees; serve as an employee advocate ensuring consistency and responsiveness.

    + Assists with the annual open enrollment process.

    + Ensures benefits documents are consistently retained in DocFinity or Workday.

    + Performs other duties as assigned.

     

    This is an on-campus position working up to 37.5hrs per week through December 2025.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Associates degree or an equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Minimum two years’ experience working with group employee benefits including: customer service, regulation and compliance. Proven record of customer service oriented approach to benefit issues/problems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse constituencies at all levels within the university community as well as external providers. Demonstrated ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality; strong organizational skills including attention to detail. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and HRIS system.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    Experience with Workday.Experience managing compliance requirements affecting benefit programs including ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125 and other related legislation.Previous experience with self-insured benefit plans.Previous experience in higher education.Previous experience working with labor unions.
