    Job Title: Optical Metrology Technician

     

    Placement Type: Managed Service Project

    Job Description

    The Metrology Technician supports critical quality control operations by performing precise measurements and inspections of hardware components. This role is fundamental to maintaining high standards for product quality and manufacturing excellence.

    Responsibilities

    + Operate various metrology tools including calipers, micrometers, profilometers, interferometers, and microscopes.

    + Execute dimensional and surface inspections of machined and optical parts.

    + Follow SOPs for inspection procedures with high attention to detail.

    + Input measurement data into Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES).

    + Generate comprehensive inspection reports for engineering review and document non-conforming parts.

    + Maintain detailed records for compliance and traceability.

    + Ensure proper maintenance and calibration of metrology equipment.

    + Monitor tool conditions and coordinate necessary service/calibration.

    + Maintain clean room protocols and 5S standards in measurement areas.

    + Partner with manufacturing, engineering, and quality teams.

    + Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

    + Complete required training for advanced metrology systems.

    + Support root cause analysis for quality issues.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience with basic measurement tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.

    + Ability to read engineering drawings and understand basic GD&T.

    + Experience with data entry and documentation in manufacturing environments.

    + Associate's degree, technical certificate, or equivalent hands-on experience in machining, optics, or quality inspection.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Experience with optical metrology equipment such as Zygo interferometers and Keyence systems.

    + Knowledge of SPC or measurement data analysis.

    + Previous experience in precision manufacturing or lab environment.

    + Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, or related technical field.

    Work Environment

    This position is onsite in Redmond, WA. You will join a specialized team responsible for high-precision optical metrology within the Optical program. Working in ISO-certified cleanroom environments, the team utilizes state-of-the-art interferometry, surface profilometry, and wavefront analysis techniques. The role offers exposure to advanced optical fabrication processes and cutting-edge metrology equipment, supporting satellite communications infrastructure. This position interfaces directly with optical fabrication engineers, systems engineers, and quality assurance teams, with a focus on maintaining manufacturing excellence and driving continuous improvement in optical measurement and characterization processes. Your work will directly impact the performance and reliability of space-based optical communication systems.

    This is a Contract position based out of REDMOND, WA.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.
