    Job Title: Specialty Chemicals Plant Technician

    Job Description

    This role involves the efficient operation of a specialty chemicals plant, focusing on the handling of powdered chemicals used in the polymer-making process, which are utilized in plastics and water treatment plants. Candidates must be capable of working at elevated heights and moving consistently across four levels of the facility.

    Responsibilities

    + Ensure the safe, environmentally sound, and efficient operation of the chemicals' plant, including utilities, bulk storage, and warehouse.

    + Operate plant machinery and equipment, including opening and closing valves, monitoring instrumentation panels, and reporting findings from gauges.

    + Perform repetitive tasks and maintain a stationary position for extended periods.

    + Dump 10-kilo bags into containers, utilize basic math skills, and track and monitor plant data according to procedures.

    + Climb ladders, operate forklifts, and perform manual duties, including lifting up to 50 lbs.

    + Stay current on operating procedures, emergency procedures, safety, and policies.

    + Move about the premises and between buildings, often exposed to weather conditions.

    + Communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management.

    + Use forklifts, industrial scales, power tools, and hand tools, and perform equipment maintenance as needed.

    + Troubleshoot minor maintenance defects; some electrical experience is preferred for instrumentation.

    Essential Skills

    + Experience in machine operation, mechanical functions, and process manufacturing.

    + Proficiency in chemical or batch mixing, chemical processing, batching, calibration, blending, and chemical handling.

    + Ability to perform general labor, heavy lifting, inspection, sealing, and packaging.

    + Capability to work with forklifts, fill containers, and ensure safety compliance.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Previous chemical experience is not required; open to experienced and trainable candidates.

    + Track record of perfect safety and no attendance issues in previous roles.

    + Experience in environments requiring respirators is beneficial but not required.

    + Candidates with a heavy industrial background are ideal.

    Work Environment

     

    The clean room is air-conditioned, but the rest of the plant is not. Platforms feature metal grading, and much of the process occurs outdoors. The plant is multi-leveled, requiring physical fitness to climb four stories. Employees are exposed to dry chemical materials, dust, noise, fluctuating temperatures, and both hazardous and non-hazardous chemicals. Currently operating 8-hour shifts, rotating every 2 weeks between the first and second shifts, with plans to implement a 'Lego Shift' schedule, offering 12-hour shifts with rotating days and nights.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Chesterfield, Virginia.

     

    Pay and Benefits

     

    The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr.
