    What is a Tax Analyst?

     

    This role is within the tax accounting division of the accounting department. The Tax Analyst is responsible for the preparation of corporate tax budgets, accounting for tax accruals, analysis of budget variations and projection of future budget variations.

     

    What does a Tax Analyst do?

     

    + Assists in the preparation of corporate tax budgets, forecasts, accruals and the analysis ofbudget variations

    + Assists in quarterly and annual financial reporting to parent company and regulators

    + Prepares various state tax returns and assists with the state income tax and federal income taxreturns, including consolidations, tax depreciation and repair deductions

    + Assists with corresponding with the IRS and various states, sales tax and financial statement audits

    + Ownership of internal controls over tax processes andspreadsheets

    + Anticipates and communicates impacts on cash flow and earnings; Stays informed oftax regulations and interpretations and performs tax research as required for tax law changes, newtransactions or in accordance with new tax strategies.

    + Supports storm restoration efforts.

     

    What does it take to be a Tax Analyst?

    Required:

    + Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, finance, economics or related and prior corporate tax experience

    + Strong knowledge of tax laws and regulations

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, MS Project) and ability to learn new computer software programs quickly Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with internal customers in an interactive team environment

    + Ability to work in a deadline-oriented, fast paced environment

    + Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task

    + Well-developed written/verbal communication skills

    + Valid driver’s license

    Preferred:

    + Master’s degree in Accounting or MBA

    + Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and/or Enrolled Agent (EA)

    + Working knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley

    + Experience in the regulated Utility industry

    + Public Accounting experience, particularly with a Big Four Accounting Firm

    This position has a career path which allows for advancement opportunities within a job series. The title and level are commensurate with experience. Pay range: $81,300 – $149,200
