Job Description Summary
The Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) is an undergraduate research program committed to high-quality social research in the public interest on issues of national and international importance with a focus on data analytics.
The Research Coordinator of Penn’s Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) in the School of Arts and Science will provide teaching assistant support to data science courses offered through PORES. The position will also support ongoing research projects by engaging in data collection and analysis, experiment design, and presentation preparation.
Job Description
The Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) is an undergraduate research program committed to conducting high-quality social research in the public interest on issues of national and international importance. PORES aims to develop a data-driven approach to understanding political outcomes in the United States through public opinion survey research and poll analysis. The program provides Penn undergraduate students valuable training in public opinion theory and research through specialized courses, mentoring and hands-on instruction with leading industry organizations.
Duties/Job Responsibilities:
The Penn Program on Opinion Research and Election Studies (PORES) is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to work as a full-time Research Coordinator.
Teaching Assistant Support: Work directly with instructor for any syllabus work including developing problem sets and grading. Lead recitations and offer office hours for data science classes. Mentor students in groups and individually, helping them to better understand course content.
Research: Collect and analyze data for original research, working closely with faculty, staff and undergraduate student fellows on research projects of interest to contribute to the goals of the program. Design survey instruments and experiments, when applicable. Analyze datasets in R and write about results.
Presentation Preparation and Literature Review: Summarize research findings for a non-technical audience and prepare presentation materials for lectures, conferences, workshops, etc. Explore existing and acclaimed research on topics relevant to ongoing or upcoming research projects.
Events, Marketing & Communications: Work with instructors and administrative staff to provide logistical and staffing support for student events, as needed. Assist with posting and distribution of electronic communications, such as events advertisements and announcements.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
This position is a two-year term appointment.

Qualifications:
B achelor's degree and 1 to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. A bachelor’s degree in social science with extensive training in statistical analysis and a strong quantitative background. Strong proficiency in R. Experience writing survey research questionnaires. Excellent writing and communication skills and being a independent, hard-working, self-motivated, creative thinker who is able and willing to work with minimal day-to-day direction.

$44,500.00 - $55,000.00 Annual Rate
Salary offers are made based on the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, and in alignment with salary ranges based on external market data for the job’s level. Internal organization and peer data at Penn are also considered.
