We seek applicants who are dedicated to servingThe University of Texas Rio Grande Valley’sstudent body as anAssistant Professor of Practice in the Department of Communicationbeginning in the 2026-2027 academic year. The department is particularly interested in applicants with significant professional experience and teaching interests in Spanish Language News Media, and who could help create a new Mass Communication program with a bilingual/bicultural/biliterate English/Spanish Language focus with courses taught in Spanish. The position will require teaching courses in English in the existing BA program in Mass Communication, as the successful candidate contributes to the development and implementation of a new degree program in Spanish News Media. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses such as Writing for Mass Media, Reporting, Copy Editing, Broadcast News Writing, Specialized Reporting, and Multimedia Storytelling, as well as courses in their area of specialization.

Minimum Qualifications
A completed Masters in Communication with a specialization in Journalism, or related field, and native or near-native proficiency in oral and written communication in both English and Spanish.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code §51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas ( TRS ), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement Program ( ORP ) instead of TRS , subject to the position being 40 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
