As we continue to evolve and grow, we are looking for an HR Lead for our operations in North America who will play a key role in driving our people strategy, strengthening our culture, and enhancing employee experience across the region.
Position Purpose and Overview
As HR Lead for North America, you will be the trusted HR partner to business leaders and employees, fostering engagement, learning, and well-being. You will oversee HR operations, talent development, employee relations, and compliance, all while bringing a modern, people-first approach to HR. The core purpose of the role is to plan, execute, and oversee HR programs and operational HR processes that support our business objectives in North America.
This role is based in Forest Lake, Minnesota, where we have one of our largest factories which manufactures for the entire world. The role is responsible for Mustad employees in North America, which include the factory, the distribution center and a distributed network of commercial talents. The role will report directly to the Chief People Officer of Mustad and will form part of the HR leadership team, to help shape the future of HR at Mustad together.
Responsibilities
HR Leadership & Business Partnering
+ Act as a trusted advisor to business leaders of North America region, providing strategic HR guidance to drive organizational success.
+ Lead HR initiatives aligned with Mustad’s culture, Mustad’s values (Passion, Commitment, Collaboration, Innovation) and business goals.
Develop HR Practices
+ Develop & execute strategies to attract, retain & develop talent at Mustad North America.
+ Recruit and retain the right talent for Mustad to ensure the staffing needs are met.
+ Oversee talent management & performance management, ensuring employees receive SMART goals, performance assessments, continuous feedback, development opportunities, and recognition.
+ Champion employee engagement. Analyze employee engagement surveys, drive employee engagement dialogues and ensure teams reach tangible engagement actions as a team.
+ Coach and train managers to be strong people leaders. Identify and implement training programs to develop employee’s & managerial skills.
HR Operations & Compliance
+ Ensure smooth and efficient HR operations, from recruitment to retirement. Manage labor relations, resolving conflicts and negotiations with empathy and professionalism.
+ Lead compensation, benefits, and payroll administration, ensuring equity, competitiveness, and compliance with local labor laws.
+ Properly manage personnel in compliance with local legislation, ensuring full compliance with US labor laws throughout the entire process from recruitment to retirement. Monitors the opening & progress of labor complaints against the company, discussing with Legal support the most appropriate actions. Represents the company in legal matters when required.
HR Transformation & Global Projects
+ Partner with the global HR team to implement modern HR tools and best practices. Support the implementation of global HR projects and HR process improvements.
+ Plan, coordinate and execute initiatives (i.e. health & wellbeing, diversity & inclusion), to achieve an safe, diverse and productive work environment and organizational culture.
Education Specific certification and knowledge
+ Completed higher level education, preferably in Human Resources Management, business administration, or social science degrees.
+ Strong knowledge of local and federal employment laws.
+ Fluent in English and Conversational in Spanish
Desirable Skills/Attributes and Experience
+ HR Expertise: At least 5 years of work experience in HR roles with similar responsibilities. Has the soft skills and experience in attracting and retaining talent.
+ Knowledge of Local Labor Laws: understands US labor regulations.
+ Actively engages, collaborates, coaches & builds relationships at all levels in the organization.
+ Communication skills: listens, forms teams, instills trust, helps manage change and transitions.
+ Hands-on & service-oriented: Translates big-picture thinking into operational execution.
+ Agility & Problem-Solving: Adapts and proactively tackles challenges. Has negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
