    Stony Brook University: Health Sciences: Renaissance School of Medicine: Surgery

    Description

    The Department of Surgery is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join the Otolaryngology and work in close collaboration with the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) team. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) will partner with surgeons, residents, and nursing staff to deliver comprehensive care across inpatient, outpatient, and perioperative settings. The position will primarily focus on inpatient responsibilities. The APP will cover both general ENT and ENT/OMFS facial trauma calls.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide comprehensive evaluation, diagnosis, and management of patients in collaboration with supervising physicians.

    + Perform histories, physical examinations, and order/interpret diagnostic tests.

    + Develop and implement treatment plans, including prescribing medications and therapies in accordance with licensure and protocols.

    + Assist in surgical procedural care including repair of facial lacerations in the ED.

    + Educate patients and families regarding diagnoses, treatments, and preventive health strategies.

    + Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination meetings.

    + Maintain accurate and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.

    + Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to institutional policies and compliance standards.

    + Participate in teaching and mentoring of trainees, nursing staff, and other team members as appropriate.

    + Fulfill call responsibilities as defined in collaboration with the OMFS and Otolaryngology teams to ensure coordinated, patient-centered coverage.

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    + NYS licensure and certification as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner.

    + Eligible to assist in the Operating Room (OR) as a Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) for a Nurse Practitioner.

    + Bachelor’s Degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited PA or NP program.

    + Strong communication, organizational, and clinical skills.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience in oral and maxillofacial surgery, otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, or surgical oncology.

    + Experience in an inpatient, ambulatory, or perioperative surgical setting
