Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Launch and Missile Defense Systems has a exciting career opportunity for a Principal Software Engineer – X-Lab Software Engineer to join our team of skilled and diverse professionals. This position, based at Schriever Space Force Base in Colorado Springs, CO, plays a critical role in supporting the U.S. President, the Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and operational levels.
This position does not offer relocation assistance and requires on-site work with no remote options available.
Position Overview:
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C2BMC) program is a crucial part of the Missile Defense System. It provides an essential operational platform that allows the U.S. president, the secretary of defense, and combatant commanders at strategic, regional, and tactical levels to systematically plan missile defense operations, monitor battle progress, and actively control networked sensors and weapon systems to meet global and regional mission objectives.
C2BMC offers a layered missile defense capability, delivering an optimized response to threats across all ranges and flight phases. It acts as a force multiplier by connecting, integrating, and synchronizing autonomous sensor and weapon systems and operations both worldwide and locally to enhance overall performance. Additionally, C2BMC is a key component of all ground and flight tests that verify and demonstrate the missile defense system's current and future capabilities.
The Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications Experimentation Laboratory (C2BMC X-Lab) offers a fast-paced and dynamic environment. The X-Lab is tasked with developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System, including Sensor/Weapon Integration, Algorithm Development, User Interface Development, and other advanced missile defense technologies. The Software Engineer's primary role is to serve as a mid-level team member, focusing on developing and testing innovative solutions for X-Lab projects and experiments.
Essential Functions:
+ Will work full-time, on-site at the Missile Defense Integration and Operations Center (MDIOC) on Schriever Space Force Base, CO, and is not a remote position. Non-standard work hours are likely during event execution
+ Will have a good understanding of **Agile** software development processes and principles, and be able to communicate the desired capabilities to a diverse group of developers, engineers, subject matter experts, and system users
+ Will be comfortable with rapidly changing requirements, design challenges that require novel solutions in fast-paced activities, and tight deadlines
Basic Qualifications:
Please list your current security clearance and IAT or relevant certifications on your resume, if applicable.
+ Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline preferred from an accredited university and 5 years of related experience or a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of experience, or a PhD and 1 year of experience, or 9 years of related experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.
+ Applicants must have a current, active in-scope DoD-issued **Secret** security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start with the ability to obtain TS/SCI security clearance
+ Applicants must have a current active DoD 8140 certification at **IAT Level II or higher** (such as Security+, GSEC, SCNP, SSCP, CISSP, CISA, GSE, SCNA, etc.), which is required to start
+ Willingness and ability to travel up to 10% to support business needs
+ Experience with **Java** and **Spring Framework**
+ Experience working in a **Linux** environment
+ Experience with software testing and analysis tools
+ Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications:
+ A current, active in-scope DoD-issued **Top Secret** security clearance with eligibility to be cleared at SCI is highly preferred
+ Developing and integrating future-capability prototypes for the Missile Defense System, including:
+ Sensor/Weapon Integration
+ Algorithm Development
+ User interface development and other critical advanced missile defense technologies
+ Demonstrable skills in:
+ Full-cycle software engineering of new capabilities
+ Basic Systems Engineering knowledge to inform software design
+ Software development using Java (or other object-oriented languages)
+ Object-oriented development principles and pattern testing
+ Create detailed and repeatable tests

Primary Level Salary Range: $100,300.00 - $150,500.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
