Job Description
The Project Management Bureau at the Iowa Department of Transportation is looking to hire aProject Manager (Transportation Engineer Associate)! We are looking for someone to help manage and lead a large number of simple to medium complexity transportation projects. This multifaceted position is an exciting and fast way to learn about the DOT and work toward achieving your license as a professional engineer!
As aProject Manager (TE Associate) in the Project Management Team, your duties will include, but are not limited to:
+ Project manager for a large number of simple to medium complexity transportation projects, responsible for scope, schedule, and cost management as the project moves towards construction.
+ Leading project meetings, reviewing work in various engineering disciplines, and must work cooperatively with subject matter experts to accomplish objectives without the use of supervisory authority. Such as facility planning, roadway design, bridge design, traffic engineering, and traffic operations.
+ Coordinates and participates in consultant contract reviews and management.
+ Assisting with the development and revision of the Project & Program Delivery Manual
Special Requirements:
Possession of an Engineer certificate issued by the Iowa State Board of Engineering Examiners is required within 24 months of hire. Licensure as a Professional Engineer is required within 6 years of hire for continued employment as a Transportation Engineer Associate.

Location : Ames, Iowa
Shift Requirements : Flexible schedule; generally, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday – Friday, telework could be an option, some travel is required, on rare occasions overnight stays.

Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must meet at least one of the following minimum requirements to qualify for positions in this job classification:
+ Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.
+ Possession of a verification of graduation with major course work in chemical, civil, construction, environmental, materials, mechanics, structural, or transportation engineering or in engineering management.

Additional Qualification Requirements
Applicants hired with verification of graduation will be required to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university within 10 months of hire.
Within a period of time after hire, as determined by the appointing authority, employees in this class may be required to obtain one or more of the following certificates, licenses, or endorsements:
+ Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
+ Licensure as a professional engineer by the Iowa Engineering & Land Surveying Examining Board.
