Roles and Responsibilities:
+ Develop and execute a comprehensive equipment planning strategy to support the NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations’ current and future fleet needs.
+ Oversee procurement logistics, including forecasting, sourcing, delivery timelines, and supplier coordination for fleet materials and equipment.
+ Lead cross-functional collaboration with Mechanical, Procurement, Engineering, and Transportation teams to ensure seamless integration of materials and equipment into active fleet schedules.
+ Direct the planning and tracking of equipment and parts inventory to support preventive maintenance and fleet availability.
+ Establish systems for monitoring inventory usage, lifecycle planning, and asset disposition for inactive fleet components.
+ Develop performance metrics to track planning efficiency, on-time delivery, inventory accuracy, and cost savings.
+ Stay informed and up to date on industry best practices, regulations, and technologies related to fleet and equipment management.
+ Lead a high-performing team of planners and analysts by providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance development. Establish and oversee a dedicated team responsible for accurately translating manufacturer part numbers to NJ TRANSIT part numbers, ensuring consistency across inventory and procurement systems in close partnership with the Procurement team.
+ Prepare and present reports to executive leadership on material planning performance, risk mitigation strategies, and budget alignment.
This Position Supervises:
+ Director, Equipment Project Management
+ Manager, Equipment Administration
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Logistics, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
+ 10+ years of progressive leadership experience in Operations. Fleet planning, logistics, or supply chain operations a plus.
+ Deep understanding of transportation equipment procurement, maintenance schedules, and asset lifecycle management.
+ Experience working in a unionized and/or public sector environment is a plus.
+ One year of closely related experience can be substituted for each year of education required.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
+ Strong analytical skills with experience using ERP systems, particularly Oracle, for planning software, and data dashboards.
+ Exceptional leadership, collaboration, and communication abilities.
