Johns Hopkins University has made a major new investment (https://engineering.jhu.edu/news/major-investment-in-the-power-promise-of-data-science-artificial-intelligence/) in Data Science and AI. The investment will add 150 new faculty positions, including 30 Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships. The University has established a new Data Science and AI Institute (https://ai.jhu.edu/) (DSAI Institute). A new half-million square foot building (https://jhfre.jhu.edu/capital-projects/projects/) and an unparalleled computational infrastructure (https://ai.jhu.edu/about/compute-infrastructure/) is being constructed. This expansion will establish Johns Hopkins as one of the largest and leading engineering schools with a top AI research program. The expansion will double the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics from 20 full-time regular faculty in 2023 to 40 by 2028.
This search is to fill faculty positions in the DSAI Institute. We invite applications for tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in all areas of the Mathematical Sciences. The successful candidate will have a tenure home in the Department of Applied Mathematics and Statistics (and possibly another Whiting School of Engineering department) and will support one or more of the following cross-departmental DSAI clusters:
- Foundational methods of Machine Learning, Data Science, and Artificial Intelligence
- Embodied AI Systems
- Health and Medicine
- Scientific Discovery
- Engineered AI systems
- People, Policy, Governance, and Ethics of AI
- Security and Safety of Autonomous Systems
Preference will be given to candidates whose research has made an impact on data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Outstanding candidates at all academic ranks will be considered. We anticipate making multiple offers.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields, and will be expected to establish a strong, independent, multidisciplinary, and internationally recognized research program. Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and a dedication to creating an inclusive and supportive educational environment for all students is expected.

The expected salary range for this position is: Assistant Professors $150k-$200k, Associate Professors $180k-$245k, Full Professors $200k-$450k, for 12-month FTE. The referenced salary range is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will be based on factors including, but not limited to, the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate - e.g., years in rank, training, field, discipline, other work experience, and other similar factors; geographic location; internal equity; external market conditions; and other factors as reasonably determined by the University.

The listed salary range represents the minimum and maximum Johns Hopkins University offers for this position, based on a good faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will vary depending on factors such as location, skills, experience, market conditions, education, and internal equity. Not all candidates will qualify for the highest salary in the range.
