This vacancy is being announced at both the Building Utilities Mechanic and General Repair Worker levels. Only one position will be filled, and the job classification level of the position will be determined based on the selected finalist's qualifications.
The Maintenance Assistant is a key position responsible for completing repair, maintenance, renovation as needed, and construction work to maintain and enhance the appearance, health, safety and function of the campus.
As a Maintenance Assistant you will:
+ Install, maintain, and repair water, plumbing, heating/ventilation/air conditioning (HVAC) systems, building systems, and mechanical and electrical equipment.
+ Assist the Building Maintenance Director in day-to-day building maintenance operations including estimating material and labor/time needed to complete repairs and maintenance work.
+ Maintain the boiler system, as allowed by licensure, including checking and logging operations, shift operation, and the replacement or repair of valves as necessary.
+ Perform campus groundskeeping duties, including lawn care and snow removal, which requires a current, valid driver's license to drive a state vehicle.
This position is designated as full-time and primarily day shift. The position is initially eligible for a full employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits.

General Repair Worker
To qualify for further consideration as a General Repair Worker, you must have:
+ Current, valid driver's license
+ Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period
+ Knowledge of the general methods and practices of a variety of trade areas (e.g. plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanics, and carpentry) sufficient to assist licensed trades workers and maintain/repair machinery, tools and facilities in a timely and safe manner
+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
+ Ability to safely use hand and power hand tools
+ Ability to understand and follow instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
Building Utilities Mechanic
To qualify for further consideration as a Building Utilities Mechanic, you must have:
+ Current licensure in Minnesota as a Journey Electrician or Master Electrician
+ Current, valid driver’s license
+ Ability to attain licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator within the probationary period
+ Knowledge and skills in the methods, materials, tools and equipment used in trades work sufficient to assist skilled trades staff in the completion of assigned projects
+ Skills in using hand and power tools and other trades equipment
+ Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety measures related to trades work sufficient to safely and efficiently perform the job duties
+ Ability to perform semi-skilled trades work sufficient to complete minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and/or electrical systems and equipment
+ Ability to perform minor repairs and adjustments to machinery and equipment including the general maintenance and minor repairs of buildings
+ Ability to understand and follow instructions sufficient to interpret and carry out assignments in a safe and efficient manner
Preferred Qualifications
+ Current licensure in Minnesota as a Journey Electrician or Master Electrician
+ Current licensure in Minnesota as a 2nd Class C boiler operator
+ Education, training or experience with HVAC systems
+ Experience in plumbing, HVAC, building automation and/or commercial kitchen and laundry repair
Additional Requirements
+ A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position. When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.
+ A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) screening (or chest x-ray) is required prior to employment.
+ Employment reference checks will be conducted on finalists. This may include a review of documentation related to job performance and contact with the applicant's former employer(s).
+ Finalists will be required to pass a driver's license check.
