Job Summary and Qualifications
Responsible for the planning and organization of patient activities. Also responsible to be a part of the multidisciplinary team of the program.
+ Provide activities for patients admitted to the program which include following program group schedule and provide set holiday activities on provided dates. Provide support and or participation for after hour activities especially on weekends.
+ Participates as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team. Attends set treatment team meetings and progress reviews as evidence by signature on treatment planning update forms.
+ Conducts individual activity assessments on each patient within given timeframes.
+ Makes a written summary of initial assessment, evaluation, treatment and progress as evidenced by initial assessment forms completed in the medical record and documentation in the progress notes.
+ Document patient progress with therapeutic activities in patient’s medical record.
+ Request needed supplies for activity department. Request should be made in compliance with the hospitals purchasing department guidelines.
+ Keeps equipment and supplies safe for use and in working order.
+ Performs other duties and special projects as required and approved by Program Director.
+ Attends required training and continuing education as evidenced by attendance forms that will be added to personnel file.
+ Completes all competency requirements as evidenced by completion forms, these will be completed annually or per hospital requirements.
As LEAD ACTIVITY THERAPIST, THESE SUPERVISORY DUTIES APPLY:
+ Provides supervision for the practice of activity therapy for all activity therapy functions
+ Collaborates with Behavioral Health leadership with individual audit functions of patient documentation
+ In collaboration with the Behavioral Health Leadership, plans, directs, and supervises all technical aspects of the Program related to services, offerings and implementation of educational programs.
+ Responsible for Program and group curriculum, group schedules and group education for all non-therapeutic group facilitation with oversight by Behavioral Health Leadership
+ Provides for orientation and competency review as well as continuing education for all employees, with a focus on department/discipline-specific knowledge and skills required for competent performance of position responsibilities.
+ Provides periodic observation of staff conducting therapeutic group facilitation
+ Actively participates with the Behavioral Health Leadership to ensure appropriate use of hospital resources and achievement of departmental budgets.
+ Actively participates with the Behavioral Health Leadership, prepares reports and statistical surveys for the facility and company as requested.
What qualifications you will need:
+ Bachelor’s degree required in recreation therapy or in one of the recognized related activity therapy fields such as music, art, dance, or occupational therapy as outlined in CMS standards for inpatient psychiatric care.
+ If permitted by state requirements a licensed consultant can be retained to supervise and sign assessments, progress notes and all activity director responsibilities.
+ Licensed or certified in recreation therapy of recognized related fields such as music, art, dance, or occupational therapy preferred
+ BLS-American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS Provider issued card required
+ Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification required
+ New hire/internal transfer employee must have Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) by the end of their first week in any Behavioral Health Group department
+ One year experience required in therapeutic activities in a psychiatric setting and must meet state and CMS requirements
