The Photogrammetry Unit acquires aerial imagery and generates geospatial information products used for transportation planning, design, and construction. It additionally uses advanced technology to obtain reliable information on the environment by recording, interpreting, and measuring remotely sensed data. The unit also partners with other government agencies for statewide orthophotography and aerial LiDAR elevation data programs, serving as NCDOT's subject matter experts for aerial surveying. For more information see thePhotogrammetry Unit Video (https://youtu.be/PEpjkw-lIh8) .

The Photogrammetry Unit has an opening for an Engineer II to provide geomatics engineering support in the consultation, investigation, planning, reviewing, evaluating, and executing moderately complex photogrammetric mapping used for functional design, preliminary design, final design, and construction earthwork pay quantities.

    In this role you will:

+ Be responsible for all technical tasks associated with completing a photogrammetric mapping project including project data preparation, scoping, cost estimates, analysis, and delivery of planimetric and terrain data; and for the pre-final review of all earthwork terrain analysis and earthwork calculations performed on assigned construction projects.

+ Evaluate both in-house and contracted photogrammetric mapping for completeness and compliance with NCDOT guidelines and standards.

+ Communicate orally and in documents with supervisory engineers, lower-level engineers, technicians, and private engineering firm staff.

+ Be responsible for all tasks, both technical and personnel, involved in the preparation, contracting, analysis, and delivery of planimetric and terrain data.

+ Perform work independently for moderately complex photogrammetric mapping projects and at the direction of supervisory engineers for more complex geomatics engineering assignments.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Management prefers applicants with the following:

+ Knowledge and understanding of the concepts, practices, and theories of professional transportation and geomatics engineering used in photogrammetry, surveying, lidar, and GIS as related to highway location, design, and construction.

+ Experience with the use and operation of equipment and software associated with photogrammetry, engineering surveys, lidar, and/or GIS.

+ Experience executing moderately complex photogrammetric mapping projects for completeness and compliance with NCDOT guidelines and standards.

+ Experience communicating complex technical information orally and in-writing clearly, effectively, and concisely to upper and lower-level geomatics professionals.

+ Demonstrated ability to perceive overlapping aerial imagery stereoscopically in three dimensions and interpret planimetric and terrain features relatively correct.

    Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

See oshr.nc.gov/experience-guide for detail.

Bachelor's degree in an applicable field of engineering from an appropriately accredited institution and three (3) years of progressively responsible experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Necessary Special Qualification:

May require registration as a professional engineer by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
