    Primary Professional Function

     

    Under the general supervision of the Security Operations Manager, Security Lead, Security Supervisor, or other designated school official, an incumbent of this class is primarily responsible for providing general security for all building occupants at their assigned campus and school property. Security is maintained by regular foot patrols of the assigned campus, and perimeter. This position may require the incumbent to serve in an armed capacity. If so, the individual must hold either a current Illinois Peace Officer certification (legally permitted to carry a firearm off duty) or retired Illinois Peace Officer status with a valid IROCC (Illinois Retired Officer Concealed Carry) card. Incumbents of this position are primarily charged with maintaining building security through proactive patrol, detection, and observation. Incumbents may be required to arrest or detain individuals. The armed security officer may do related work and assume additional responsibilities as determined by the Security Operations Manager, Security Lead, Security Supervisor, or other designated school official

    Duties/Responsibilities:

    + Patrols assigned campus buildings and building perimeters on foot to prevent illegal trespass by unauthorized individuals.

    + May maintain a post at the main entrance of the school or other designated areas on campus.

    + Prevents unauthorized visitors from entering school buildings or loitering on school grounds.

    + Provides a security presence and maintains log of visitors to the building.

    + Inform supervisors or administrative staff of the need to contact or involve the Chicago Police and/or Fire Departments.

    + Ascertains individual's business on school property and responds accordingly.

    + May escort visitors to/from areas of building.

    + Conduct security inspections of school facilities.

    + Assists with traffic control and the drop-off/pick-up of students at the beginning and end of each school day to ensure the safe flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic during arrival and dismissal.

    + Provides security for school and Archdiocese special events, as needed.

    + May assist school administrators in handling emergency situations, disciplinary matters and/or investigations.

    + May escort students to and from designated on and off-campus locations. This may be on foot (walking) or by school bus.

    + May monitor security cameras, if applicable.

    + Maintains familiarity with and facilitates adherence to all aspects of the FXW Emergency Action Plan.

    + May, under specifically defined and limited circumstances (protection of life and against great bodily harm), use force, up to and including deadly force.

    + Must maintain proficiency with firearms, as applicable: in accordance with the officer’s law enforcement agency policy, or in accordance with IROCC rules and regulations.

    + May prepare reports of incidents.

    + May use computer applications such as spreadsheets, word processing, calendar, e-mail and database software in performing work assignments.

    + May assist the FXW Facilities Manager on an as-needed basis.

    + Assists other security officers as needed.

    + Assists emergency first responders, when on campus.

    + May be required to perform other job-related duties as designated by the Security Operations Manager, Lead Security Officer, or designated school officials.

    + Adheres to all FXW and security-specific policies, rules, regulations and other directives.

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Compliance:

    Although FXW is an Independent Catholic School, all faculty and staff comply with the Archdiocese of Chicago’s Protecting God’s Children Requirements.

     

    + Complete the required new hire paperwork and mandatory Archdiocese training.

    + Collect filled out CANTS forms on an annual basis (September).

    + Must clear Background Check/Fingerprints.

    + Provide one of the following, as applicable: a current Police ID, a valid IROCC (Illinois Retired Officer Concealed Carry) Program Card, and/or a FOID card.

    + Monitor and enforce compliance with internal policies.

    + Required to attend additional training classes as designated by the Security Operations Manager/ Security Lead or Security Supervisor and/or FXW administrative staff.

    Additional Skills and Experience

    + Thorough Knowledge of security techniques; knowledge of the principles, practices, and techniques employed in establishing and maintaining building security.

    + Strong communication and organizational skills.

    + Capability to prioritize assignments and collaborate with multiple partners across the school.

    + Ability to manage a large team and reinforce consistent behavior while on the job.

    + Be professional and service-focus.

    + Ability to anticipate needs from parents and teachers.

    Qualifications and Requirements

    + Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma.

    + Familiarity with State requirements for law enforcement officers.

    + Onsite presence while on duty is a must.

     

    Key Relationships

     

    The Security Personnel reports to and will be supervised, evaluated, and mentored by the Security Operations Manager, Security Lead, Security Supervisor, or other designated school official. Other key relationships include Principals, Campus Leadership, Head of School, other teachers and administrators, staff, students and parents.

    Physical Requirements

    This position requires the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Essential functions may involve walking campus grounds, standing for extended periods, climbing stairs, responding promptly to emergencies, and occasional lifting or carrying of objects (up to 50 lbs.). Vision, hearing, and communication abilities are important for monitoring security systems and responding to incidents.     Work Environment

     

    The Security Personnel role is primarily on-site and involves collaboration with faculty, staff, students, parents, co-workers, and community members. Flexibility to rotate between campus locations and participate in meetings with the security team and other departments is required. The work environment is dynamic and may require adaptability to changing situations.     FXW offers a competitive salary commensurate with experience and consistent with independent schools.

     

    This part-time position is not eligible for FXW benefits. However, certain benefits may become available if the employee meets the eligibility requirements under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

     

    Expected compensation for this role includes a salary within the range of $26.72 - $34.50
