Job Description:
The Department of History at Ohio University invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor or associate professor level specializing in pre-20th century American and/or European legal history. Preference will be given to applicants whose program of research and/or teaching experience complements the department’s strengths (e.g., pre-modern legal and social history, modern political and intellectual history, diplomatic history) and the course offerings of the Center for Law, Justice & Culture. The successful applicant will teach courses in American Constitutional History and other introductory and upper-level courses in American civics, American or European legal history, and their area of expertise.
Ohio University is a Carnegie Foundation R1 (highest research activity) institution, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong research record. Responsibilities include maintaining a research program, directing graduate student research, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and participating in departmental service.
The Department of History is home to 20 full-time faculty at the main and seven regional campuses in Southern and Central Ohio. History courses are a cornerstone of the university’s general education curriculum, providing students across the College of Arts and Sciences, College of Education, and pre-law programs with essential tools for critical analysis, civic understanding, and interdisciplinary thinking. Minimum Qualifications:
The following are required by the start date of the position:
+ Ph.D. in History.
+ Evidence of research productivity and/or teaching experience in a relevant area of Western legal history.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Publications and/or other evidence of sustained research activity.
+ Prior teaching experience.
+ Prior experience in curriculum development.
