Summary of Position
The Database Analyst sits at the intersection of data engineering, database administration, and business analysis. This role focuses on documenting database workflows, entity relationship diagrams (ERDs), and system interactions to ensure clarity, transparency, and alignment between technical teams and business stakeholders.
The individual will work closely with DBAs, data engineers, data analysts, and business analysts to capture and communicate how data structures, processes, and workflows support business rules. The role emphasizes documentation, process analysis, and cross-team collaboration, ensuring data systems are understood and operating as expected in the organization. The successful candidate must be comfortable reading, writing, and modifying queries in both SQL and NoSQL environments.
Position Functions
The role will have the following primary responsibilities:
+ Partner with DBAs, data engineers, and data analysts to analyze and document database workflows, ERDs, and process interactions.
+ Develop and maintain comprehensive documentation repositories for database structures, data pipelines, and rule-based business processes.
+ Collaborate with business analysts to ensure documentation reflects real-world data usage and business objectives.
+ Support data governance initiatives by ensuring consistency, accuracy, and completeness in database process documentation.
+ Identify opportunities to improve workflow efficiency and communication between technical and business teams.
+ Assist with ad hoc analysis and reporting as needed, providing context on data flows and system dependencies within our business intelligence platform.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
+ Strong understanding of relational databases, ERDs, and data workflows, coupled with the ability to read, write, and modify queries.
+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to create clear, structured documentation.
+ 2+ years of relevant work experience.
+ Strong analytical and organizational skills with attention to detail.
+ Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
Other Requirements
+ Bachelor’s degree required.
+ Prior experience in a data-focused role (data analysis, database administration, systems analysis, database documentation, or business analysis).
+ Familiarity with a BI platform, such as Power BI, Tableau, or Domo.
+ Familiarity with scripting languages – such as Python, R, or Julia – a plus.
+ Familiarity with Jira or other Atlassian products a plus.
+ Experience with CI/CD pipelines and NoSQL tools a plus.
+ Insurance industry experience a plus.
Physical Requirements
Must be able to sit and work quietly for extended periods of time, operate a computer, lift heavy file boxes, and answer and communicate on a telephone.

Working Conditions
Business-casual, fast-paced, multi-tasking office environment.
Hours of Operation:
This position supports our marketing efforts internationally. This position's work hours are Monday through Friday 9am - 5pm, in a hybrid work environment. Our hybrid environment is 3 days within our business-casual office environment. Of these 3 days in the office, Wednesday and Thursday are required, and employees may work from home the other 2 days. Our employees choose their schedule. This position requires occasional flexibility for working additional hours to accomplish project objectives.
