The Ag in the Classroom (AITC) Educator serves as a member of the CCE Steuben Youth Development team and assists with the planning, coordination, implementation, and delivery of Ag in the Classroom programs. The AITC Educator is responsible for promoting program objectives and plans in all areas of Ag in the Classroom programming with an emphasis on events, activities, and school programming. Responsibilities also include coordination and support for 4-H youth development programming and serving as an accessible resource to program participants.

Required Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree. Associate degree pus 2 years transferrable program/functional experience may substitute.
+ Experience relevant to the role of the position
+ Ability to meet travel requirements associated with this position.
+ Ability to work flexible hours which may include evenings and/or weekends, as appropriate.
+ Ability to clearly communicate (speak, read, and write proficiently) in English.

Preferred Qualifications
+ Coursework in Education, Agriculture and/or Human/Youth Development.
+ Experience with Cooperative Extension or other similar educational organizations.
+ Experience in guiding and collaborating with volunteers.
+ Ability to identify and develop volunteer leadership.
+ Strong interpersonal skills with proven ability to work effectively with advisory boards and committees, community, and funding partners.
+ Ability to initiate, plan, organize, implement, teach, and evaluate informal educational programs.
+ Ability to effectively participate in professional team efforts.
+ Ability to communicate effectively through verbal, written and visual channels using traditional methods and educational tools, as well as electronic technology (e.g., video, audio, computers, etc.).
+ Ability to identify and utilize program resources from the organization and the community.

Position Responsibilities & Essential Functions
Program Responsibilities:
Program Delivery – 70 %
+ Serve as a subject matter resource for Ag-in-the-Classroom program areas, utilizing established program resources and materials, to provide information and resources to program participants, school educators, and volunteers.
+ Deliver high quality educational programs utilizing established resources and materials for Ag-in-the-Classroom program area.
+ Deliver Ag in the Classroom programming to students in traditional classroom settings at local public and private schools as well as in non-traditional settings, such as home-school groups and summer camp and/or recreation programs.
+ Deliver programs and participate in special projects including but not limited to the AITC Programming, 4-H Youth Development Programming, and other extension association activities, as assigned.
+ Utilize a variety of educational methods which may include direct teaching, group experiences, media, newsletters, electronic technology, internet, and distance learning to deliver program.
+ May occasionally apply established subject matter knowledge to create lesson plans to deliver educational programs using pre-existing program materials, projects, methods, resources, and policies to address community needs and opportunities for diverse audiences.
+ May assist in ensuring that program delivery is within scope of the statewide plan of work.
+ Acts as a positive role model for youth participants in all program activities and programs.
+ Serve as a team member and cooperate with the entire Association staff to achieve Association program delivery goals.
+ Foster acceptance of programs, methods, and policies to address community and individual needs and consider diverse audiences through frequent contact with program participants, parents, and volunteers.
+ Represent CCE before the public by establishing and developing working relationships with diverse participants, partners, community organizations, and other key stakeholders for purposes of program delivery.
+ May provide professional development opportunities to 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom program volunteers via curricula-based instruction for their professional development purposes
Program Evaluation – 5 %
+ Implement program evaluation as designed.
+ Interact with program participants, association staff, program committees, county/community leaders, and other key stakeholders to collect evaluation data for improving programs.
+ May assist in analyzing collected program evaluation data for reporting and program improvement purposes using standard, established policy, procedure, and methods.
+ May assist with making recommendations for program changes to strengthen and improve programs.
+ Communicate evaluation results and findings.
Administrative Responsibilities:
Direction – 5 %
+ Assist the 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom programs with non-complex administrative tasks in the planning of educational programs.
+ Assist 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom Educators with planning and strategy development to strengthen and improve 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom programs as necessary.
+ May assist with financial direction of 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom programs to include planning for program expenses and budgets, as well as financial resources for program continuance and enhancement.
+ Assist with identifying, anticipating, recommending, and planning for 4-H and Ag-in-the-Classroom program needs/supplies.
Management – 5 %
+ Provide moderately complex administrative management support to the overall organization
+ Assist in solving problems and resolve conflicts that arise in the operation of the 4-H Youth Development and AITC program areas, utilizing appropriate policies and procedures with guidance from supervisor.
+ Assist with volunteer management, providing guidance to 4-H and AITC program volunteers
+ Assist with ensuring volunteer direction and management procedures are followed according to established policies and procedures by providing guidance, leadership and resources for volunteers and volunteer leaders including recruitment, screening, orientation, training, evaluation, and management
Coordination/Operation – 10 %
+ Maintain and prepare teaching materials necessary for Ag in the Classroom programs applying existing subject matter knowledge.
+ Maintain records of class participants, complete reports, and accurately collect and prepare paperwork as required.
+ Maintain communication with constituents and the community through variety of methods such as newsletters, e-mails, electronic technology, internet, social media, website postings and content.
+ Assist with coordination of marketing and promotion of Ag in the Classroom through public relation initiatives and networking/collaborating with government, economic, educational, and other organizations.
+ Act as contact for school educators and volunteers within the County.
+ Provide information and data as requested to assist with preparation of reports, impact statements, and success stories on program progress and accomplishments for funders, advisory committees, Board, and others as necessary.
+ Effectively maintain existing professional relationships with other agencies, organizations, and businesses to facilitate continued programming efforts.
+ Prepare and submit accurate expense reports, mileage reports, receipts/supporting documentation, and/or vouchers in a timely manner per established policy and procedures.
+ Maintain confidentiality of all information and data collected.
+ This position may require the transport of self and/or program materials/resources in performing position responsibilities.
Professional Improvement – 5%
+ In cooperation with Supervisor and/or Executive Director, jointly develop and pursue a professional development plan as a means to increase competencies relative to position accountabilities and to address changes and Association priorities.
+ Collaborate in activities that are in general support of Cornell Cooperative Extension and perform other duties as assigned.
Health and Safety – Applied to all duties and functions
+ Support the Association to maintain a safe working environment.
+ Be familiar with and strive to follow any applicable federal, state, local regulations, Association health and safety policy/procedure/requirement and standard.
+ Act proactively to prevent accidents/injuries and communicate hazards to supervisors when identified.
Policy – Applied to all duties and functions
+ Represent Cornell Cooperative Extension to the public, community leaders, colleagues, volunteers, members of Cornell University faculty and staff, government officials and the general public in a professional manner.
+ Aware of, and adheres to, established Cornell Cooperative Extension Association policies, and procedures.
+ Contribute to the overall success of the organization by performing all assigned duties in a professional, timely, and accurate manner.
+ At all times act in a professional Customer Service manner including but not limited to business-like demeanor, tactful communications, cooperative, helpful, positive, and receptive manner.
Position Details
This is a part-time (20h/week) non-exempt position. Compensation paid at the rate of $20-$22 per hour. Excellent benefits, based on eligibility, including:
