    Nursing Extern - Winter 2025 (full-time) Temporary

    Shift: Working up to full-time (32-40 hours per week) Usually three 12-hour shifts while following your preceptor's schedule with 100% attendance required. This may include working days, nights, weekends, holidays, and/or rotating shifts

    Employment Status: Temporary

    Hours per Pay Period: 0.90 = 72 hours every two weeks (Non-Exempt)

     

    Salary: $17.00/hr

     

    This program will include 1 week of orientation and 3 weeks of clinical rotation. Applicants MUST be able to commit to the 4-week program, including start and end dates and potential holiday shifts.

     

    Cohort Date: December 15, 2025 - January 9, 2026

    Interview Dates:

    + Oct 24, 9am – 1pm

    + Oct 28, 9am – 4pm

    + Oct 30, 12pm – 4pm

    + Oct 31, 9am – 1pm

    DESCRIPTION:

    1. Supports and practices the mission and philosophy of Billings Clinic and the department.

    2. Performs patient care and treatments as directed and supervised by the licensed nurse. May receive Nursing Delegation as defined in Montana Board of Nursing Rules

    3. Assists patient/resident activities of daily living, such as baths, oral hygiene, ambulating and turning. Obtains and records vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respiration and temperature.

    4. Measures, records and provides for patient/resident: intake of food and fluid which includes partial and total assistance with feedings; output from bodily functions/specified drainage devices and collects specimens as directed by the licensed nurse/physician.

    5. Identifies and anticipates problems and safety issues and initiates appropriate action.

    6. Demonstrates positive, supportive, and caring behaviors in communication with patient/resident, families, visitors, physicians, staff and others.

    7. Takes responsibility for identification of own growth and development needs; meets all system and departmental educational requirements.

    8. Maintains competency in all organizational, departmental and outside agency environmental, employee or patient safety standards relevant to job performance.

    9. Performs all other duties as assigned or as needed to meet the needs of the department/organization.

    COMPLEXITY & DIFFICULTY:

    Professional conduct in dealing with difficult situations with co-workers, patients/residents and visitors

     

    Resourcefulness in dealing with simple to moderate complexity requires ability to prioritize duties with assistance of nursing personnel.

    PURPOSE/DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS:

    Under general supervision of the Licensed Nurse or Physician assists in the delivery of patient/resident care. Works collaboratively with the Physician, RN, and the LPN to meet the physical, psychosocial, educational and spiritual needs of the patient/resident and family. May work in areas of the acute care hospital, physician clinic or the residential/long term nursing facility.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    Completion of junior year of a baccalaureate nursing program

     

    OR Completion of the first year of an Associates degree nursing program

     

    Must supply verification of course completion with current skills competency checklist and current enrollment

     

    CPR Certification
