Position Summary
The Counselor provides clinical services, crisis management, and education/outreach related to mental health and/or substance use to Utica University students. This position provides consultation to the Utica University community and actively collaborates with other departments in order to best assist the student body. Through personal contact and coordination with other faculty and staff, the incumbent assists students with reaching their educational goals.

Major Responsibilities
MAJOR** **RESPONSIBILITIES** **:
Clinical Responsibilities (90% of job duties):
+ Provide culturally sensitive individual counseling to a diverse University student population who present with a variety of challenges including, but not limited to: depression, anxiety, substance use, eating disorders, trauma, suicide ideation, and general University adjustment related issues.
+ The successful candidate will be able to appropriately clinical assess and give diagnostic impressions, using the DSM-5, in order to develop and implement a therapeutic treatment plan with brief, specific, solution focused interventions.
+ Collaborate with Health and Wellness Center staff to develop and facilitate group therapies and/or psycho-educational programs that will holistically address students’ medical, mental health and/or substance use related needs.
+ Assist in meeting with students who are referred through the University conduct sanctioning process.
+ Provide crisis intervention services to the campus community for mental health related emergencies.
+ Timely completion of appropriate clinical documentation, case management, and coordination of care with other offices throughout the University and within the community as needed.
+ Maintain current and accurate clinical records of all counseling interventions, consultations and attempted outreach.
Additional Responsibilities/Expectations (10% of job duties):
+ Provide consultation, education/training and prevention outreach programming for the Utica University community on issues of mental health, substance use and/or general wellness.
+ Participate in clinical supervision and case reviews with counseling center staff, as well as attend Student Affairs and Student Wellness Center staff meetings.
+ Provide consultation to University faculty/staff, administrators and parents on student mental health and/or substance use related concerns.
+ Provide consultation services for faculty/staff who present with questions and/or concerns pertaining to an enrolled Utica University student.
+ Assist with programming and provide support to HEOP staff and students during summer session.
+ Take an active role in the development and implementation of the objectives and goals for the Counseling Center and Division of Student Affairs.
+ Attend new student orientation, Student Life awards celebration, commencement and at least two programs/events each semester as a professional representation of the Counseling Center.
+ Engage in at least one professional development opportunity by attending relevant trainings and/or conferences specific to mental health, substance use, and/or higher education each year.
+ Provide training and/or educational outreach to the campus community as assigned by the Director of Counseling. At least one each year.
+ Assist in the development and coordination of campus wide educational events.
+ Liaison work with campus groups and/or constituencies as needed.
+ Participate and engage in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives and programs, including but not limited to serving on DEI committees, serving as a diversity advocate or community liaison for a job search, advising a club, facilitating DEI-related training, and engagement in institutional cultural and celebratory events and programming
+ Completes other job duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness Center.

Education & Experience Qualifications
+ Masters degree in Social Work or Mental Health Counseling required.
+ NYS licensure preferred. Unlicensed professionals will be considered with the expectation that they will obtain a NYS license or limited permit within six months of employment. If permit is obtained, they must be actively working towards obtaining a NYS state licensure via the Office of Professions and be fully licensed within three years of employment.
+ Be in good standing with the NYS Office of Professions.
+ 2-3 years post masters experience in mental health preferred, however will consider candidates with less experience if they possess strong clinical skills.
+ Experience with and knowledge of people living with substance use preferred; basic substance use knowledge required.
+ Specific crisis management and/or suicide assessment experience preferred; basic knowledge of suicide risk factors required.
+ Experience in higher education preferred, experience working with young adults required.
Minimum Skills/Abilities
+ The ability to appropriately assess for risk independently and insight to know when to seek consultation/supervision.
+ Experience and comfortability with public speaking.
+ Multicultural awareness and the ability to effectively work with a diverse population.
+ Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
+ Strong verbal and written communication skills.
+ Working knowledge of computer software such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, as well as the ability to utilize an Electronic Medical Records System.
