New York University’s Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development invites applications for an entry-level tenure track Assistant Professor position to begin on September 1, 2026. The appointed faculty will be a member of the Department of Media, Culture, and Communication (MCC). MCC specializes in the study of media—broadly speaking—in its cultural, historical, technological, and global contexts. We are an interdisciplinary faculty trained across the humanities and social sciences. Candidates should demonstrate clear research specialization(s) and teaching range, while also speaking to the field of media and cultural studies more generally.
We seek candidates with research and teaching interests in areas such as globalization, urban studies, architecture, media industry, and visual culture, as the successful candidate will be teaching in MCC’s new dual-degree Media, Culture, and Global Cities MA/MS program, which is run in partnership with the Department of Media and Communications at The London School of Economics (LSE). This position is based at NYU’s Washington Square campus.
NYU Steinhardt is a uniquely interdisciplinary school, committed to a holistic understanding of people and human development across the lifespan. NYU Steinhardt has one-of-a-kind integration of education, communication, health, and the arts, with eleven departments, seventeen research centers and institutes, nearly 300 full-time faculty and close to six thousand students.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will conduct an active program of research including publications and extramural funding; teach and advise undergraduate, master's, and doctoral students; and participate in faculty meetings, serve on committees, and provide other service to the School and University. They will also actively engage with the students and curriculum of the MCC-LSE Media, Culture, and Global Cities MA/MS program.
NYU's dynamic Global Network University includes NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU Shanghai, and international programs and academic centers around the world. NYU Steinhardt faculty may have the opportunity to engage in research and teaching at these global study and research sites.
Candidates should have a PhD in hand by August 2026 and an active agenda of research, publication, and teaching, with the potential for service to the Department, School, and University, as well as a demonstrated success in teaching.
Please apply online via Interfolio with a cover letter, curriculum vitae, <25 pp. writing sample, and the names and contact information for three references. Application review will begin November 2, 2025, and will continue until the position is filled. Inquiries: Professor Susan Murray, search committee chair, [email protected] .
