    Summary

    Provide engineering support in achieving the safe, reliable and efficient operation of SRP's power grid for Transmission and Generation Operations (TGO).

     

    What You'll Do

     

    Transmission Services is a forward-facing department of TGO, implementing strategy and innovation to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of SRP’s power grid operations. We vet technologies, best practices, and industry research for SRP-centric objectives, then carry out the activities necessary to realize their benefits.

     

    + Lead and/or support engineering activities on strategic TGO projects and initiatives.

    + Serve as TGO’s representative facilitating new interconnections to SRP’s transmission system.

    + Assess and analyze the operation of SRP’s transmission system.

    + Identify, communicate, and implement improvements to system operation in collaboration with multiple work groups and disciplines.

    + Support Operational Readiness programs as needed.

    + Serve as technical expert on negotiations and contractual matters related to TGO.

    + Prepare and conduct presentations to various levels of SRP management and industry groups as needed.

    What It Takes To Succeed

    + Self-motivation, teamwork, and flexibility are key:

    + Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with an emphasis on teamwork.

    + Excellent time management and organizational skills, ability to manage multiple responsibilities at one time.

    + Manage relationships with peers and other support groups to ensure departmental and project objectives are met in a timely manner.

    + Minimal travel, flexible work hours and an ability to resolve conflicts under stress - consistent with project priorities.

    Knowledge in the following is a plus:

    + Energy Management System (EMS) Applications including Power Flow, Contingency Analysis and the Operator Training Simulator.

    + Balancing Authority operations, Transmission operations, Transmission Markets and the Energy Imbalance Market (EIM) (or other market operations), Reserve Sharing Group functions.

    + Operations Tools: EMS/ SCADA, j5, iTOA OMS, PCI Gen Manager, PI Process Book, PI Asset Framework, OATI products

    + Project management tools and experience.

     

    Certification or Testing Required

     

    NERC Reliability Coordination Certification is required within two years after acquiring the position.

    Experience

    Five (5) years full time experience actively engaged in engineering practice. Must have demonstrated the successful accomplishment of work of the nature defined for the job of Senior Engineer.

     

    Promotion to Level 2 requires a minimum of two years of experience at Level 1; demonstrated capability to perform advanced and more difficult work as determined by the supervisor. Promotion to Senior Level requires a minimum of three years of experience at Level 2; is fully competent in all aspects of functional area of assignment and as such would be recognized as a specialist in area of assignment and may have periodic or occasional lead responsibilities.

    Education

    Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum, an International Engineering Alliance (IEA) recognized institution, ABET Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) or any state or internationally recognized PE registration.

     

    Testing and Certifications

     

    Must possess the appropriate valid Arizona driver’s license.

     

    Hybrid Workplace

     

    SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
