Responsibilities*

Function as part of a team to manage patient flow in a fast-paced outpatient setting. Duties include but are not limited to the following:

+ Rooming patients, obtain vital signs, meaningful use and enter into MIChart, prepare and turn over rooms for surgical procedures.

+ Works independently with physician during procedures, bandaging, review of post-operative instructions, suture removal. Administering common medications as ordered by physician.

+ Clean and wrap surgical instruments for sterilization. Deliver and pick up surgical packs from sterilization.

+ Maintain supplies and linen in surgery rooms.

+ Transport specimens to pathology.

+ Assist in training and orientation of new MA's.

+ Provide for the safety of self and others by adherence to the hospital's safety guidelines, policies, and practices. Help ensure compliance with all such safety-related policies.

+ Protect and respect patient privacy and provide a secure, comfortable, and welcoming clinic environment.

Required Qualifications*

+ Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.

+ Prior medical assistant experience in an ambulatory care clinical setting is preferred.

+ Enthusiastic, reliable, hard-working, flexible, detail-oriented, and positive minded individual with demonstrated skills in interpersonal and customer service skills.

+ Ability to take direction from a multiple number of medical clinicians and supervisor and work efficiently in a busy environment.

+ Excellent time management and organizational skills, consistently uses available time effectively.

+ Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

+ Participate in in-service programs for the medical staff.

+ Must have excellent attendance and punctuality.

Medical Assistant Associate:

+ 1-3 years of relevant experience

Medical Assistant:

+ 0-1 years of relevant experience

Desired Qualifications*

+ Minimum of one-year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory care clinic setting.

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.
