    Responsibilities*

    Survival Flight is the critical care transport team serving Michigan Medicine and the majority of North America by helicopter, airplane and ground ambulance.

     

    The Survival Flight Educational Nurse Coordinator (ENC) is responsible for designing, implementing, and coordinating educational programs for new and current Survival Flight staff. The ENC ensures team members have the necessary orientation, training, and clinical competencies to provide exemplary care during transport. This individual collaborates with Survival Flight Nursing Leadership, provides direct patient care, and serves as a consultant and educator across the department.

    Responsibilities

    Provide expert nursing care to patients of all ages and conditions during air and ground transport.

     

    Develop, implement, and evaluate new employee orientation programs for Survival Flight nurses commensurate with our scope of practice.

     

    Identify ongoing educational needs for staff and facilitate continuing education for various patient populations commensurate with our scope of practice.

     

    Serve as a clinical resource and provide consultative support to nursing staff.

     

    Design, implement, and assess staff development and innovative clinical education plans.

     

    Deliver and coordinate institutional and unit-based educational initiatives.

     

    Utilize various education technologies and simulation modalities for initial and recurrent staff education.

     

    Collaborate with the Medical Director to investigate, design, and update clinical care protocols and guidelines.

     

    Assist in the development, maintenance, and assessment of orientation, education, and competency records.

     

    Develop, revise, and evaluate performance plans in coordination with the Nurse Manager/Supervisor.

     

    Identify education gaps and provide additional or reinforced education when needed.

     

    Actively participate in the orientation process, including scheduling, preceptor development, and direct precepting of RNs.

     

    Chair and/or participate in appropriate nursing committees.

     

    Contribute to unit quality improvement plans and activities.

     

    Mentor, educate, and evaluate unit preceptors; coordinate multidisciplinary and interdepartmental orientation experiences.

     

    Provide regular communication and feedback on employee performance to unit leadership and orientee.

     

    Direct remedial education for flight nurses, as necessary, to address deficits in performance expectations.

     

    Facilitate the completion of unit-based mandatory and institutional regulatory requirements.

     

    Ensure all educational and clinical standards adhere to Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS) standards.

     

    Excellent interpersonal skillsthat is direct and effective **,** as evidenced by verbal and written feedback, with a positive and professional attitude.

    Salary & Nursing Framework Level:

    This UMPNC RN posting is posted under the Role-Specific Advancement Model (RSAM) as:

    ENC- COMPETENT NE

    Actual RSAM LEVEL and salary will be determined at time of hire.

     

    RSAM levels range from ENC-COMPETENT NE to ENC-EXPERT NE TO ENC-MASTERY NE

     

    Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be interviewed and considered for the position.

    Applicants who have left the UMPNC bargaining unit must include on their resume dates of past employment including months and years of service along with effort.

    Required Qualifications*

    Current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan

     

    Bachelors Degree in Nursing or equivalent education and experience.

    Meets current RN requirements for unrestricted practice as Survival Flight nurse:

    1)Currently working as a full time RN (at least 0.9 FTE or greater) in a Regional Referral Critical Care Unit, Level 1 Trauma Center Emergency Department, or Flight Nurse for the previous twelve (12) months.

     

    2) A MINIMUM of four (4) years total (1.0 FTE) of RN experience as a permanent employee (does not include per diem, temporary or nursing float pool experience) in the following areas:

     

    One (1) year (1.0 FTE) of adult or pediatric ICU (does not include Neonatal ICU) experience as a RN in a referral center / tertiary care center is required

     

    Emergency Department experience in a Level I trauma center/regional referral center.

     

    *For candidates with four plus years of ICU nursing experience, Paramedic or Flight Nurse field experience may be considered for ED requirement if the candidate has practiced as a senior paramedic for greater than two (2) years in a busy 911 system

     

    3) Problem solving skills and independent decision making as a RN, to include at least one (1) of the following activities: committee/unit involvement, publishing in a peer-review journal, teaching or instruction roles, research or project involvement.

     

    Current instructor status in two or more required certifications: BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, ATCN (must already have AHA BLS, ACLS and PALS certifications)

     

    Current certifications CCRN and CFRN

     

    Current Michigan Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (EMT-B) license and Paramedic License, along with Michigan EMS instructor/coordinator certification at the Paramedic Level.

     

    A commitment to professional practice and development as an RN leader, to include at least one (1) of the following roles: manager, supervisor, charge nurse, committee leadership, project lead, and/or preceptor experience.

     

    Experience with communicating course-correction of clinical practice and problem-solving in a leadership role (formal or informal); to include experience collaborating with nursing leadership to resolve clinical and operational issues.

     

    Experience and knowledge of adult learning concepts and the nursing developmental model.

     

    Experience in utilizing an evidence-based, data-driven approach to facilitate/create change at the bedside.

     

    Involvement in patient/staff quality and safety.

     

    Obtained or actively pursuing healthcare simulation certification (CHSE).

    Desired Qualifications*

    Work Schedule

     

    Hours: 40 hours per week (1.0)

     

    Shift Information: Predominantly day shift. **Must be flexible with hours, as shift assignments may vary for optimal learning. **

     

    Responsibilities: Staffing responsibilities following the RSAM guidelines.

     

    All new employees will be expected to float to a designated unit(s) in times of low census.
