    **Description** At 1898 & Co., a division of Burns & McDonnell, we are helping modernize and transform utility grid operations across North America. Our Enterprise Systems & Integration team partners with electric utilities to deliver high-value consulting services using leading technologies. We are seeking an experienced project manager focusing in grid systems with strong electric utility business and technology acumen to lead projects that enhance operational systems and modernize the grid. This role will provide consulting and project management services across Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Outage Management Systems (OMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS), Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), and Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS). This is a high-impact role for someone passionate about driving grid modernization programs, leading multidisciplinary teams, and delivering innovative technology solutions to clients.

     

    What You’ll Do

     

    Business Development

     

    * Build and strengthen client relationships through project delivery, strategic engagement, and ongoing collaboration.

    * Identify and pursue new opportunities to provide grid modernization consulting services.

    * Support proposal development, scoping, estimating, planning, and budgeting efforts.

    * Provide strategic guidance and thought leadership to clients’ executive leaders, ensuring alignment with long-term organizational vision.

     

    Project Execution & Delivery

     

    * Act as project manager or delivery lead responsible for scope, schedule, budget, risks, issues, and overall project delivery.

    * Apply industry experience and leading practices to architect, design, develop, and implement SCADA, EMS, OMS, DMS, ADMS, and DERMS solutions.

    * Provide field support, troubleshooting, commissioning, and deployment of grid systems, including advanced distribution applications (e.g., FLISR, VVO, DER Dispatch).

    * Support all phases of the project lifecycle: analysis, design, build, testing, triage, configuration, and deployment.

    * Lead execution activities using methodologies such as Waterfall and Agile.

    * Ensure project completion within budget, scope, and quality standards, while achieving business objectives.

    * Supervise overall project progress and ensure milestones and deliverables are met.

    * Oversee project documentation, reporting, and communications with stakeholders and executive leadership.

    * Provide centralized coordination for project interdependencies and ensure timely development and implementation of systems.

    * Ensure project quality through rigorous QA/QC protocols and compliance with company safety standards.

     

    Leadership & Mentorship

     

    * Lead multidisciplinary teams of consultants, engineers, and technical staff to deliver successful outcomes.

    * Provide leadership, guidance, and mentoring to less experienced staff.

    * Champion teamwork, customer commitment, and continuous improvement within project teams.

    * Drive a culture of enterprise innovation, collaboration, and technical excellence.

    Technical Responsibilities

    * Validate system requirements, functional specifications, integration designs, and application interactions.

    * Ensure integration solutions are aligned with architecture standards and best practices.

    * Lead development of business process design activities and cross-application interaction inventories.

    * Apply technical expertise to influence project execution processes and QA/QC standards.

    * Perform other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor Degree in Engineering, Business, Information Technology, or related degree from an accredited program and 5 years of relevant experience Required or

    + applicable years of experience may be substituted for degree requirements. Required

    + Knowledge in project management, techniques, and procedures.

    + Excellent computer skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong organizational skills.

    + Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

    + Experience leading technical aspects of consulting engagements in regards to decarbonization and zero emissions transportation.

    + Experience on consulting projects, client operations, or executing program management within the critical infrastructure industry.

    + Understanding of general business and financial principles.

    + Experience with communicating across business segments to understand project objectives.
